There have been transformations since the 60s, but Sailor Moon laid the foundation for the "modern style", with traveling shots moving along with the transformation effect, etc. Everything that came after borrowed from that visual style and choreography (on both sides of the Pacific).

2022-12-19 22:25:10 +0000 UTCIt seems to be a bit of both. On youtube there are several videos of comparisons with She-ra's transformation and it does seem to be a reference. On the other hand, She-ra's always seemed to me similar to the Sailor Moon of the 90s. (Note that when I talk about She-ra, she is from the reboot series, not from the 80s)
