I think you got it slightly off about the foot washing. Jesus was the one who washed the feet of Judas the traitor, if that helps contextualise the symbolism. And yes, there is a lot of foot fan service in this anime as well and the reason it's always included is that various audiences enjoy fan service and so it persists.

2023-03-31 02:04:19 +0000 UTCThis episode when I watched it for the first time made me so angry, that it took me months to finally go back and finish the show. In my opinion, L is smarter than Light. He knew practically from the beginning that it was Light, but he just couldn’t prove it. Light would’ve never found L had L not came in contact. Light can make elaborate plans, but L has the more difficult job of proving that it was Light. What also infuriated me about this episode was that L specifically said that if he died, Light is Kira, but literally no one believed L. Watching it again with you guys, I can understand now why he wasn’t believed. With the fake rule in the back, it being months upon months from when that’s initially said and when they “clear” his name, and L finally unchaining Light and Misa. I get it, but it still makes me mad. Either way, L will be missed. The rest of the show isn’t as good without him, but it’s ok.
