Code Geass totally dominated on youtube. I think it had the best debut on youtube for this channel with the highest amount of comments. likes. shares, subscribers, and views. I'm bursting with joy that there is still so much love for this series and the fact that it beat fairly new anime that's hype right now. Honestly a really great show it's hard to say if this will be chosen because a classic versus what currently has hype or relevance in todays time but I do still hope this show is chosen because I feel like from what they previous watched and enjoyed like AOT, FMAB, Death Note, etc. This show overall would be enjoyable for them and fits a common theme.

Code Geass is by far my favorite Anime. Its story is outstanding and I really enjoy its art style. If you liked Death Note you will like Code Geass. Also since yall watch in dub this is a top choice, the dub is great and the preferred way to watch for a lot of people I know.

I can understand Montana's confusion on how AOT is a mecha anime because to an outside it seems very weird. To even get into the AOT debate you need to have a very good understanding of the mecha genre. So here is a bit of a run down. Disclaimar I am not taking one side or the other. Just providing both sides of the debate. So people who argue that AOT is a mecha anime bring up the gotcha argument that most people consider Evangelion to be a mecha anime. Now Evangaleion is one of the most well known Mecha animes but like AOT, in Eva people also pilot biological sentient beings. Not robots. Even though they look like giant robots. Another argument is that the mecha genre is also inherently very political in anime. Just like AOT.

Most older series get overlooked by the newer recent ones because more and more people are starting to watch anime than ever before so obviously the newer watchers will see the ones that are trending and watch them. You will never find out about the Older classics unless someone recommends it you since they aren't talked about much.

One thing you'll love about Lelouch is as smart and intelligent as he is, he doesn't have a God complex like Light. He loves and respects the people he's fighting for and truly wants to save Japan and the rest of the world from the evil tyranny of the Britainian empire. The only thing similar between Death Note and Code Geass is that both Mcs are intelligent, they want to change the world and the whole psychological mystery thriller element but the motivations of the 2 Mcs, their goals, the plot of the story, the direction it goes and the ending is totally different. you will not get an exact clone of death note. about 20 - 25% is similar but the rest will be a new experience.

Most of the fanservice in Code Geass is pure titillation, with a couple instances where you’re supposed to find humor in how uncomfortable Kallen or Villeta are in their skimpy outfits. Which, isn’t really any better, maybe worse even. Especially the bunny suit, considering the context of the scene.

Personally I find Lelouch to be a much more likeable protagonist than Light. Light killed criminals indiscriminately and more than one innocent without doing anything to hold powerful people to account for their actions. He doesn’t attack the systemic forces that cause crime or do anything about structural violence. Whereas Lelouch is literally fighting an Ethno-Fascist Empire.

I would imagine like many things opinions will vary. Some probably don't mind, some would probably prefer certain tropes get used less regarding fanservice and some probably try to avoid voicing characters that end up in a lot of fanservice type situations.

Kallen's camera angles aren't funny, purely sexual. But yeah I think it's more a cultural thing with Japan being more open in media though I did say in another comment Kallen's portrayal is similar to Bond women or Black Widow. As a thesis it's interesting since much EU art is nude/was nude. How different cultures have these different things. Then again I am not a Japanese woman maybe they hate that part of their culture (tho it seems not from interviews with some VAs I see) But for fun reaction videos I don't think it's worth having moral debates and such.

Next should be the last unless the manga goes until end of 2023 or longer which it shouldn't. I am not caught up tho so dunno if it feels close to finished. I think the real stickler is gonna be Bones needing pre production for 9-12 months. They can't start working on S7 Episode 20-25 until the final chapters release so we might not get MHA S7 for a bit.

When it comes to "fan service" in anime instead of only pointing out that it's ridiculous you should also consider if there is some repressed western moral vestiges that leads you to that conclusion. Fan service is part of anime and is put in for a reason. Usually to covey a lighter or humorous situation. That being said it can be very silly and ridiculous, lol. Also, those of us that's been watching anime for many years don't even register the fan service anymore, haha.

While you are correct, it’s worth pointing out that the MHA manga is on the final arc and the anime isn’t very far behind it. It’s possible the next season will be the last. Two seasons at the very most. So by the time they catch up, it will be over or almost over.

I would say it ultimately comes down to how it is perceived and the fact that no two people have the same definition of fan service. The image in the ending of CG I am guessing is green hair and without context that comes much later, it is rather unclear what the purpose is exactly.

Locking into a show 32 weeks longer than the entire run of Avatar and Korra just seems rough. Even if Code Geass somehow won as I want I'd still suggest they do the 2nd show and do 2 shows a week because variety is the spice of life.

It does but they are shite reboots. JuJutsu Kaisen 'is' shorted but in 2 months it won't be AND they will be dealing with waiting for dubs/copyright on week old episodes. Friday 15 November 2024 is how long it would take them to be almost finished and start a new vote for a show after MHA. Personally I don't want to wait till 2025 to see a new series. I'd really love some compromise at least like 1 MHA 1 Code Geass a week or MHA as bonus episodes like Demon Slayer.

I'd also like to suggest as a fan of Fujimotos work that you will not enjoy Chainsaw Man. The easiest explanation I can give is it's got the most fan service and isn't a side note in the show but it's a show aimed at a teen audience that revels in it quite alot. Based on Montana's reactions I'd honestly suggest cutting it.

I'd like to suggest there's a way to watch every show. Watching Code Geass and Chainsaw after Death Note will take 30 weeks where as MHA will take 85 weeks to catch up. I'd suggest doing either CG or Chainsaw next then the other and then MHA at the end of the year onwards that way in 2023 you watch all 3. If MHA is chosen next you won't watch a new show for all of the next 2 years.

Honestly I reckon doing this, then Chainsaw for 30 weeks is the best option. By the end of the year they can watch 2 new series and then do MHA for the rest of 2023 and 2024. JJK can replace Demon Slayer when that finishes as it's super similar to that show. I think that's the best option, I'd dislike if we had 70+ weeks of MHA ahead of us before voting for a new show.

I think code geass is such suitable show for u guys ! So many things that u can discuss and talk about! Also you easy can compare it to other shows you watched so far. I feel like MHA is great show with more positive vibes that can be good for you after watching DN, however it feels more like natural progression or so, don't wanna spoil, but gonna say you will enjoy code geass after watching DN ( its like seeing similar but different). Also Excited for any show on a list CM is my personal favorite and its shorter than other shows so u can watch it and move on. JUJUTSU is a good action with a bit of humor worth watching as well, MHA is the best shonen you can watch when you not really familiar with that genre. So anything is good, BUT Code Geass is just so good and I feel you will love the most after DN

I think I've gone from anything but MHA to anything but Code Geass. It's easily the most similar to what we'll have just finished (Death Note) so not a lot of variety to me. I would very much prefer at least one of the shorter new anime and then maybe MHA, or ideally two shows, with one ep per week for a line of shorter shows and one longer one for the best of both worlds.

You talked about the fan service at the beginning, and that's the one aspect I don't like about Code Geass. Aside from that, it's genuinely my favourite anime. But it's kind of weird that it has so much fan service, all the character designs were done by Clamp, which is an all female artist group.

Like Death Note, if you want the L introduction/ story setup moment, watch epsidoe 2! Similar to Death Note, CG won't do great in polls due to age (not being recent like others)... but it's a classic for a reason. Plus there are themes both of you would love discussing!

I do think it is a good point that this is actually a complete story with only 50 episodes and maybe a movie. And not an ongoing manga that will go for who knows how long with an unknown percentage of it actually getting an anime adaptation.

Yeah honestly I think it would have been better to do at least the first two episodes of this (same for My Hero, actually) but it's really nice to see that they managed to pick up most of the details and stay focused on what was going on. A lot of the reactions to this first episode have people feeling very overwhelmed, but based on this reaction I really think this show is right up their alley

For me all the options are great, but Code Geass is such an amazing show The plot and characters are so great, the music is superb, the animation and style looks so good considering when it came out. So if you have to pick a show to replace Death Note then Code Geass to me is the perfect show

It's the only finished anime of the lot. JJK has a 2nd season that'll be tough with Copyright being so new. Chainsaw will soon and same issue. MHA isn't bad for reactions tbh but I've had some season 5 videos struck down and it's ongoing and super long. I'm hoping if MHA is picked they do it after another show preferably Geass because MHA would take all of 2 years to watch!

Another plus for CG is that it's only 2 seasons completed. Relatively short, while MHA for example, while fantastic, is much longer and still ongoing. This could easily fill something like the Death Note slot. And it's Just. So. GOOD.

Fanservice from CLAMP weird? James, you have not seen/read nearly enough of their creations.

It'd completely flown out of my head that the manga group CLAMP did the character designs for this. That alone elevates this show, plus all the praise everyone else is giving it. Everything Montana like about the clothes and designs in the intro is part of their signature style.

I would imagine like many things opinions will vary. Some probably don't mind, some would probably prefer certain tropes get used less regarding fanservice and some probably try to avoid voicing characters that end up in a lot of fanservice type situations.

While you are correct, it’s worth pointing out that the MHA manga is on the final arc and the anime isn’t very far behind it. It’s possible the next season will be the last. Two seasons at the very most. So by the time they catch up, it will be over or almost over.

Code Geass is one of my all time favorites. Great story with fantastic twists and turns.

My comment was more negative and I edited it to fix the tone to be how I meant it, the reason he commented was I was being a lil rude. They really don't need to reply to comments I was just speaking into the comments what I thought.

I would say it ultimately comes down to how it is perceived and the fact that no two people have the same definition of fan service. The image in the ending of CG I am guessing is green hair and without context that comes much later, it is rather unclear what the purpose is exactly.

To be fair compared to the other three shows Code Geass is technically old.

Her criticisms have been about sexualization for the sole sake of audience titillation. That’s not what CSM does. She’s never suggested that she is against any content that is sexual in nature. What CSM does is not fanservice.

Locking into a show 32 weeks longer than the entire run of Avatar and Korra just seems rough. Even if Code Geass somehow won as I want I'd still suggest they do the 2nd show and do 2 shows a week because variety is the spice of life.
