Paul was the perfect guest for this one. Felt like he brought up a lot of stuff you guys often don’t talk about in the reviews. Was a good one!

SundayBacon

He does NOT eat a live octopus in this movie, but he’s still in great form…he gives the film both gravitas and some very funny moments!

CDMatthew

As soon as I heard Choi Min-sik I was in. Hoping to watch it today.

Sarah Rosenberg

The amount of times Bad Boys 1 and 2 came up on TotallyRadShow Flickchart VS. without Jeff ever saying he hadn't seen them, I don't know if he had and has now forgotten or never saw them to begin with !

Ryan Goodwin

Dave, I’m so glad you saw EXHUMA and enjoyed it as much as I did! (I hope I didn’t pester you too much about it…my enthusiasm can get a bit overboard sometimes.) You’re right, that movie is a RIDE that’s scary and creepy AF, but its humorous moments helped to give it some buoyancy, too. Oh, and thanks for the shoutout!

CDMatthew

Even if Bad Boys 4 Life had been available for this film I doubt they would have used it. “Bad Boy 4 Life” is a phrase and a song associated with Diddy. Will Smith wouldn’t touch that with a ten-foot pole.

Brian Deaton

Paul Scheer is an amazing guest to get but I missed Devindra. This is a Devindra movie. Paul was thinking of Robert Quarles (Neal McDonough) from Justified, not Boyd (Goggins).

David

Exactly. But I guess it’s what you are focused on. If that incident is still in your head you see it all over. 🤷🏾‍♂️ I was only really annoyed about the reason for the panic attacks.

David Jones

Same. I even read a headline about “the slap” reference but was having such a good time with the film that I didn’t even think about the Oscars

David

Literally fist pumped in the car when the Daves B Movies jingle came on. It’s been far too long.

Jon

I’m so removed from the Oscars that I didn’t attach ANY significance to the slap other than Mike needed to get his head back in the game. But I did think the whole time the panic attacks were because he was married and had more to lose now.

David Jones

One of the best 30 for 30 documentaries is Hillsborough. It’s a towering, gut wrenching documentary. Also I think 30 for 30 initially meant 30 documentaries for the 30th anniversary of the start of ESPN

Garry L

I Googled it and found out that the term comes from Charles Ponzi, a notorious con artist. Interesting: https://www.historyhit.com/the-rise-and-fall-of-charles-ponzi-how-a-pyramid-scheme-changed-the-face-of-finance-forever/

Jerry Mudd

And then Will Smith wins Best Actor! Crazy

Jerry Mudd

I wonder if there are legit businesses that started as Ponzi schemes but evolved to legitimate.

Danny Champlin

In-seine pun Dave, proud of you.

Chris Cameron

Yeah, I think any time an audience member goes up on stage to physically assault a performer, that's a big deal, even if the performer doesn't fight back.

Stranger2Reality

Kind of weird to hear the guys try to normalize the slap like it was no big deal imo. The dude walked on stage and essentially started a fight during a live internationally broadcast show. It's not about the potential danger from the slap itself, it's the fact that he nearly started a brawl and ruined the most important night of many people lives, and the only reason that didn't happen was because Chris Rock was the adult and didn't respond with violence himself. Yeah, people saying he could have killed Chris Rock are silly, but the real disgusting aspect (to me) was the egotistical/selfish nature of the act given the setting. Not at all the take I expected from these guys.

Ben Wesorick

I've not seen the Lance Armstrong documentary, but I'm curious about his arc it portrays. I wonder if him saying he wouldn't change a thing because without that, he wouldn't have been able to change, and become who he is now (maybe a better person, I don't know). Or if he is just as straight up mercenary as Jeff described him to be.

Bruce Chang

Dave, we just had *this year* the movie "The Stranger" on Hulu starring Maika Monroe and Dane DeHaan, which is a Quibi TV series recut into a movie.

Papool Chaudhari

If I’m not mistaken, I believe there was also an animated series of Planet of the Apes that aired in the 70s. Time to get to work, Dave!

AF

Is it just me or does Paul Scheer sound just like Dan Trachtenberg?

Jerry Mudd

Hey guys, you should check out Adil & Belil’s film Rebel. It has their inspired kinetic energy, but with a deeply moving and powerful story. Really worth checking out. Love the show, yall rule!

patrick costello

Dave, did the Letterboxd comments remind you about the B movie segment?!

Wil Johnson

I’m honestly scared for Jeff to watch Oldboy. I was not okay after the ending of that movie.

Tyler Sexton

I had an editing mentor who said whenever possible to remove “of” and reverse the wording to save space. Thus… “The Apes Planet” is just ready to be used whenever we need it.

Derek Cheng

It’s funny, on Video Archives Quentin, Roger, and Gala all agreed that Life, Liberty and Pursuit on the Planet of the Apes was the best title in the entirety of PotA history but you guys hate it 😆

Gareth

Jeff they couldn’t use Return to the Planet of the Apes because that was already the name of the 1975 animated series https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_to_the_Planet_of_the_Apes
