Ep. 779 - Inside Out 2

Comments

I agree, this was a bizarre review of what was top tier Pixar. And to describe this movie as “perfectly cromulent” is just ridiculous. I’m definitely with Jeff on this one.

Peter Tribe

INSIDE OUT 2 has a post credit scene that covers the “Big Dark Secret,” and it’s a nothing burger.

toeknee

Not gonna lie, if they remade “Up” from the perspective of the emotions, that might be a fantastic movie.

Danny Champlin

I want to see the sequel “Inside Out 70” which they hinted at with the Nostalgia character. It will be the first time millions of grandparents drag their grandchildren to the movies.

Liz Merry

I agree! Apple TV+ is awesome!

Wayne Edwards

I recommend Rectify to Jeff and he watched one episode then quit too. You should give it another chance but idk where you can find it now. It’s in my top 3 favorite drama series ever. With Breaking Bad and Lost. By the way. I agree, Smiling Friends is great.

David Esposito

Oh wow I couldn’t even tell you lol. I listen to a lot but I only have 1 true favorite!

Vactor

Same!

Vactor

Same! I started listening in 2009 or 2010, can't remember. But I have literally heard every single episode since I started.

Sarah Rosenberg

Came here to say this ha ha

Sarah Rosenberg

Sorry Devindra, but the best representation of a full on panic attack in a children’s movie was PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH

ak

Yeah, Dave sure seems to watch a lot of Netflix documentaries and yet never seems particularly glad he watched them

DarmineDoggyDoor

Apropos of nothing, Dave do you have any thoughts or experiences with the Belltown Hellcat I keep reading about in the NY Times?

Stranger2Reality

Damn, thanks for mentioning Sanctuary this week Devindra. Fantastic.

Jonah Hill

I don’t get why Devindra and other people are dismissive of Apple TV (some Ringer podcasts have made similar remarks)… I feel like it has a ton of solid-to-great shows. Severance, For All Mankind, Shrinking, Foundation, Big Door Prize, Loot, Dickinson, Mythic Quest, Pachinko, Platonic, Silo, Slow Horses, Trying, Presumed Innocent. Not to mention a lot of buzzy movies

DarmineDoggyDoor

Didnt Universal and Sony own theaters still?

Ryan Goodwin

Inside out 2 comment: I don’t want to act like this bothers me a whole lot, but I think it’s dumb how they portray the emotions in the dad’s head. It’s a classic trope that the dad doesn’t care the way the mom does, but I doubt it’s accurate for most guys. I don’t care too much cause I think guys are represented better in almost all media than women.

Danny Champlin

I usually agree with Devindra much more than Jeff, and this time that’s all inside out … if only I can visualize how my emotions are processing this reversal…

John Halski

What's number two?

Cardassian Vexillology

Big Mouth on Netflix is the very adult version of IO2 and made for those of us that aren't big Pixar fans. It's fantasticly hilarious and raunching 😅 Devindra should definitely check it out 😁

Rick C

Went to see IO2 with my wife our 15-year-old and our 4-year-old. Our teenager felt this movie in his core. He cried. I cried. My wife cried. Our 4-yr-old was entertained. It was absolutely wonderful. We all loved this movie so so much. Jeff is dead on. No notes. IMHO.

Lino Rodriguez Jr.

So glad Jeff heaped praise on this film. While not as powerful as the first, this film still spoke to me in such a personal and profound way. The film's depiction of anxiety and inferiority felt so spot on that I am still sitting with my own thoughts after seeing the film a few days ago. One question I have for the gang (that I think would make a great After Dark question) is which emotion would you consider to be at the head of your control panel? As someone who still finds a lot of joy in life, I think that it's okay to live life with joy at the helm. Yes that feeling decreases over time and I have had to learn to lessen my own toxic positivity, but I do get frustrated by (typically cynical) people who feel having joy at the helm is somehow naive or childish. Anyway sorry for the rant, but I would love if you had a moment to share your thoughts about your own control panel. Keep up the amazing work!

Scott M. Adams

SPOILER: Dave, Devindra and Jeff, did ANYONE stay for the post credit scene of Inside Out 2? They revealed the deep dark secret being that Riley burned a hole in a rug.

Papool Chaudhari

My friend was a producer on Inside Out 2 and one of the first Latina women producers at the studio. Just for clarification for Dave, Inside Out intentionally set up for a sequel as Jeff was suggesting. If Pete Docter hadn’t become the head of Pixar he would have been returning to that story as it was loosely based on his own daughter (who is one of the kindest person I’ve worked with). Jeff was also right that the Dad was controlled by anger in his head. Also everyone please don’t watch that Tik Tok doc everyone. The third episode is very manipulative and exploitive to the victims.

John Terranova

Wooo, OG Mad Max movies! Can’t wait

Gareth

Dave has got to stop wasting his time with every documentary series that cracks the Netflix Top 10 that week. They’re all shittily produced and they never break into the zeitgeist anyway. Save those precious watch hours and invest it into film and television blind spots!!!

AF

Give me the boring suburb of San Jose with its amazing weather, ocean access, and Yosemite/Sierra access over the vibrant culture in Atlanta with its oppressive humidity every day of the week lol.

Papool Chaudhari

Yep, I saw it, the deep dark secret was……….she burned the rug. That was not worth staying to the end. The rest of the movie I loved though.

Dave Epp

Devindra’s obsession with upcoming sequels instead of what this movie is about is weird.

Reynaldo K. Cruz

The deep dark secret was revealed in a post credits scene as a gag! I had to leave with my kid before seeing it but apparently Pixar was very tidy in letting folks know there was no LGBT+ subtext in the film 🙄

Lawson S

I’m with Jeff on this movie. Absolutely brilliant sequel to a timeless classic.

Ryan Crisp

Thank goodness for Jeff. As someone who has extreme issues with dealing with anxiety and not feeling good enough and the loss of joy as an adult this movie was a tough but great sit.

Reynaldo K. Cruz

Apologies for being the Ennui to your Joy.

Don Wood

Jeff, “evil” is great but there is some genuinely creepy/scary imagery that I don’t think you’d vibe with.

Reynaldo K. Cruz

Oh

David Esposito

I hate to tell you, but my Patreon app on Android is displaying comments in ascending order, so you will perpetually be Last Comment. Cruel, I know.

Don Wood

Raked over the coals Jeff, raked.

Reynaldo K. Cruz

Still my #1 favorite podcast after 15 years!

Vactor

First comment. Boom. I’m the best person on Earth.
