I mean, I know the onion is satire but, exactly! It's like if you ever hear comedy albums and there is that one obnoxious laugher on the recording that stands out except it's real life and they are sitting right next to you. The gasper was a bit more of a whatever, it reminded me of Jeff telling the Gran Turismo ladies story. Their powers combined was just too distracting for me I guess.

I was surprised you guys did the whole bit of mentioning NSYNC and Bye, Bye, Bye during the opening credits without bringing up how that song was also in X2. It played when they're escaping the school and steal Scott's car, after Wolverine "hotwires" it with one of his claws, that song immediately starts blaring out of the speakers. I guess it was a fairly obscure callback though. Also, I love how the void was literally the dumping ground for all the former Marvel characters that were just given up on over the last few decades. RIP to the original Sabretooth lol

Stranger2Reality

I'd counter with saying it is their "Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back." "Reboot" is so awful lol.

Papool Chaudhari

It's the "Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back" of Marvel. Inside jokes for the fans. It's just that Marvel has wayy more fans than Kevin Smith ever did. Lol

Papool Chaudhari

Yes. That is what the scene in Ragnarok is. I recognized Thor's face as not Thor's, but the 3rd brother who played the actor portraying stage-Thor in Ragnarok

Johnathanblade

I actually think it was modified from Thor cradling Loki in The Dark World

Cameron Stewart

The Thor cameo was the 3rd Hemsworth's cameo from Ragnarok with Deadpool instead of Loki (Matt Damon)

I feel like this movie was my reward for watching every bad (and good) superhero movie since the original Superman, and this podcast review was my reward for watching this movie.

Leaflemming

Slight side tangent. Not in the Slack (maybe I should be) but has there been talk of a meetup in Seattle for PAX? I am still a few eps behind, but will also be at PAX and it would be cool if they did something. Even if it’s pretty small.

Anthony Wickizer

I found it very fascinating that in my packed theater, the Channing Tatum jokes all fell completely flat. Dead silence. I guess the Gambit movie isn't something normies know about

Matthew Poonamallee

I DID NOT like Loki. I forced myself through S1 and maybe watched 2 episodes of S2. So the moment the TVA showed up, I had a huge sigh. For me, that hurt the movie.

David Jones

Never mind - I guess it was Chris Hemsworth. I forgot that Matt Damon played actor-Loki. The framing of it made me unsure. Oh well.

Scott M. Adams

Am I mistaken that when we see (SPOILERS BELOW) Deadpool being held by Thor, it is Matt Damon's Thor. I thought that was a joke showing that Deadpool would never be in the "real" MCU.

Scott M. Adams

Best villain?! Oooof Jeff shocked me by saying that (crazy talk)

Ahh, this is a goofy and broad comedy movie. I don’t think it represents any significant shift downward in the MCU. I think it’s healthy for them to fuck around with different tones and genres. If anything I feel like this is a palate cleanser after the mostly-disastrous Phase 5, this is the one that’s actually a fun time again and can wipe the bad taste away.

Cameron Stewart

I think that “there will only ever be one Blade” joke can be taken two ways. After it’s said, Deadpool looks knowingly at the camera for a beat. You can certainly take it (as you and I did) that it was an acknowledgment that the new Blade movie is DOA. But I think there’s also an argument that it’s a joke that Snipes Blade doesn’t know there’s a new one coming, and Deadpool is looking at us like “yikes, nobody tell him.” I think it works both ways!

Cameron Stewart

Bit weird how much you guys didn't like the corporation approved skewering of the property in Barbie, but here laughed and clapped ;) But I guess this is what happens when you have to endure so many of those movies for the job

Mountain of Conflict

I enjoyed the movie as I watched it, and it was great hearing you guys revel in it. But I have to say, the feeling that has risen in me and stuck is … despair. David said it. This is not a good movie. It’s a vehicle for meta jokes, and everyone on screen is winking. This is the anti-Endgame. That movie was proof that Marvel had done it. They successfully built a fourth wall strong enough to withstand the pressure of multiple incompatible franchises. This movie is Endgame by Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker. That movie was a celebration. This movie is a eulogy. I can’t help but think we just saw a fire sale of strip mined IP, and I fear that nothing will ever really matter in the MCU again. Sorry to be such a downer, guys. I’m in the hangover stage. Deadpool liked to say he’s “Marvel Jesus,” but this movie was “Marvel Family Guy.”

John Halski

I had a good time with it, one specific reveal was the only one I truly thought was awesome and one I thought was clever otherwise I thought it was perfectly fine and fun, some cool action, funny lines and a few surprises, overall it just felt cute. I did have annoying people beside me, the left side loudly gasping at every little character reference like it was the hugest deal and the right side uproariously laughing at just about every joke. that made the movie kind of tough to watch because people were having, in my opinion, very over the top reactions to things I would smile and chuckle at. I'm all for people having fun but maybe it being so localized to right beside me was the problem.

No way home?

Cardassian Vexillology

Just read a review that gave it a 1/4 because of a bad plot. 🤣😂

Cardassian Vexillology

I enjoyed the movie without liking it very much lol I'll be heading straight to a deserted island where I belong

Kai Ellis

This is Marvel’s “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot”

Wensi Zhou

Great episode to listen to after just seeing the movie. None of it was shot in Montreal as we would have heard about it here, it was mainly around Vancouver where Ryan is from, like the previous movies.

Nicholas Nickner

excited to see this saturday night then feverishly listen to this on the ride home.

Jonah Hill

Perfect timing I literally walked out of seeing this and my phone notified me that your review dropped. This was the most fun I’ve had watching a Marvel movie since Endgame.

Peter Tribe

If any reviewer doesn't like this movie they have no heart and should be cast out from society.
