Sometimes Dave's descriptions of himself makes him sound like a cross between Jack Nicholson's character from As Good As It Gets and George Costanza. Also, when Devindra is swaddling his kids in blankets at the movies I hope that's only for kids movies rather than stuff that he wants to see. I hate when parents drag their young kids to a movie that's clearly not meant for them and they just make a bunch of noise the whole time. I can't help but feel if you have to do a bunch of prep to get your kids to be able to sit still through a movie, then maybe they aren't ready to go to the theater yet. That's what home video is for. Hire a babysitter if you really must go out.

Stranger2Reality

This sounds like a joke, but I'll just say I disagree... we need to be able to interact with each other in a society, and not just with those we have a familial or political connection to.

SlashFilm Court: 1. I moved to a relatively small college town in the Midwest 3 years ago after living in Austin for 5 years. I am not joking when I say that nearly EVERY PERSON brings a blanket to the movie theater. Not just toddlers, but teenagers, college students, middle aged folks and elderly couples bring blankets with them. It’s just a thing here. I’ve never had the courage to ask anyone why. I’m still not used to it. I just have to accept that this is my fate. I do think it’s a little strange. But what’s even stranger is sitting in the theater knowing I’m the weird one for not having a blanket. 2. I’m a larger person. Public spaces often aren’t very accommodating, especially airports and coffee shops. If I have to use the restroom, I pack up ALL my shit and schlep it into the stall with me. If I’m at the airport, that often means my suitcase is jammed against the closed door of the stall while my knees press into the suitcase. I would NEVER EVER consider asking anyone to watch my stuff, even at my local coffee shop where I often work. And I live in IOWA - a state that is associated with the phrase “Iowa nice” because of how considerate people are. I will suffer with my shit while I shit before I even consider bombarding my fellow citizens with my responsibilities.

I know it’s not a huge thing but it makes me really happy to hear Dave making sure Emma Corrin’s correct pronouns were used. Yall are some of my most trusted reviewers and it’s always great when you show that you’re all such respectful and kind-hearted people as well.

Austin Buccowich

Yes, very much felt like a throwback and made me realize how much horror has changed in the last decade or so.

Stranger2Reality

I thought the same, it was refreshing to see a horror movie that wasn’t trying to do too much. Just a straightforward movie with some great scares. Felt like early 2010s James Wan

Austin Buccowich

Jeff has never sounded more crotchety than his frustration with people cuddling and sharing a blanket at the theater

Michael Hein

Dave is the human embodiment of the Seattle Freeze.

Steven Kennick

100% not her

Cameron Stewart

Has Jeff not watched X-Men '97? Any reason?

Mountain of Conflict

Jeff: "Apple TV Plus shows are great!" Also Jeff: Sells listeners hard on Season 1 of The Big Door Prize, but refuses to acknowledge the existence of Season 2.

Papool Chaudhari

Oh, I often think about that.

Mountain of Conflict

They did a whole After Dark podcast about that movie a couple weeks ago.

Stranger2Reality

Please come to SXSW! That would be fantastic.

Jay Martinez

Blankets at movies are disgusting. End of story.

Cece

I need Jeff to see Ghostlight because it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Asking someone to mind your shit: - In a cafe, first smile and ask “excuse me, are you going to be here for a bit?”. Based on demeanour and answer, follow up with “would you mind keeping a casual eye on this for me? Won’t be long 😍”. Buy them a cookie if you feel extra guilty - In the airport: if already at your gate, look around, check your fellow humans, AND JUST LEAVE YOUR LUGGAGE. Bop to bathroom/water fountain/Hudson News to see if they have Best Summed Up yet, unencumbered and worry free. The very reason it’s illegal to ask for someone to take your bag is also the very reason no one will touch it. Just return inside 15 minutes before suspicion mounts…

Kess Broekman-Dattner

Talking to anyone in public is always rude . Hard rule.

Joel Leagans

Wow I forgot Devindra had Hustlers and Matrix 4 in his top 3s those years. 🥴

Cardassian Vexillology

I don’t see anything online saying that it was her. I’d find it baffling if it was her and they drew no attention to it.

Tyler Sexton

To be fair, nobody is credited as Lady Deathstrike on IMDB. But while I did notice that character, it didn't look like Kelly Hu playing her, although I haven't seen her in anything in a very long time.

Stranger2Reality

You underestimate the amount of guns we have over here 😟

Stranger2Reality

You guys didn’t even discuss the super important thing that happened after July 24th?! I can’t believe it! (Jokes are hard via the written word but I still felt compelled to write this.)

Luke Johnson

I think nobody should ask anyone, even their family/friends, for a recap of what happened when they went to the bathroom. BUT the point being missed here is that the person asking is alone. I hate that being alone somewhere puts you at a disadvantage for things. Before reserved seating for movies, going alone to a packed movie was tough. How do you go to the bathroom before the movie? You can't save your seat. You would need to ask a stranger to save your seat. I was just at Comic Con, and it's tough being alone in line and you need to go to the bathroom. You have to ask a stranger to hold your place. People do, and mostly works out, but it's always awkward. So I don't blame the solo movie goer here 100%, but ultimately I agree that the solo goer shouldn't ask the question and just deal with it. It's okay to miss a few minutes of a movie because you have to go.

Papool Chaudhari

This adds a whole new layer to Sorkin saying “you can’t handle the truth” was one of the worst lines in the a few good men script on Jimmy Kimmel a few years ago

Gareth

Boy, what a weekend to not be covering film news 👀

Donald Ward

GIRLS STATE has been on Apple TV plus for MONTHS now. Dropped in April!!

Papool Chaudhari

Questions/Emails > What We’ve Been Watching (in my opinion)

Phoenix Bauer

I don’t think that was Kelly Hu in the movie. Shes not credited.

Tyler Sexton

I don’t live in the US but sometimes I wonder how you guys function in a society 😂 any interaction with another person in public seems to be terrifying and outrageous to you

Mountain of Conflict

I love you Jeff, but you are completely in the wrong for asking anyone to watch your stuff at the airport.

Eric Webster

Girls State is already available on Apple TV, FYI

Aaron Pinkston

I haven't listened to this yet, but I'm excited to hear Dave's thoughts on Oddity, as I saw it last week and thought it was one of the better horror movies I've seen recently. I don't know why it didn't get a bigger release, as it's one of the rare horror movies nowadays that's just scary without feeling the need to be like a metaphor for some larger theme, or all abstract or whatever. Felt like a bit of a throwback in that regard, just a straightforward horror movie. The trailers made it look like it would probably be pretty artsy, but it wasn't at all. It did a great job of sucking you in right away and was also pretty humorous in parts. It was way more mainstream than I expected it to be. General audiences probably would have really enjoyed it if it actually played anywhere. Hopefully people discover it on VOD.

Stranger2Reality

Damn they jinxed themselves 😂

Maxaveli

I have asked, and don’t mind being asked, to look after stuff in a cafe for a few minutes. I would never ever do it in an airport.

Cameron Stewart

"If any big events happen." the DLC curse is infecting the filmcast it seems. ;)
