Wasn't Cary Elwes character the bad guy because he stole Bill Paxtons idea and trying to market it as his own. Essentially a corporate hack stealing the innovation of someone less notable to earn a huge amount of money.

Man, it's looking like Twisters is gonna wreak havoc on Dave's Summer Movie Wager. Dave put it at 10th and instead it looks like it will probably end up at 4th (behind Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4 and presumably Deadpool & Wolverine). This would also drop Dave's biggest gamble, Bad Boys at #3 down to #5. Also, Garfield is looking like the likely choice for the 10th movie slot this summer, and nobody picked it there. Peter was the only person to make Garfield one of his 10 choices, so he'll probably pick up a couple points over everyone else there.

Regarding Dark Matter. Dave said if someone that looked exactly like him walked into his house he would assume they came from a parallel universe right away? I don't buy it. I think he would assume he had a twin brother that his parents gave away for adoption at birth. Or he is on a prank TV show and it's a guy in make up. There is no way the first guess is parallel universe machines.

Movies released six months apart feel better if they span 2 calendar years, but I can't articulate why.

I'm down for a The Fall rewatch on the Afterdark this autumn. Would like to see if Jeff changes his opinion.

Also he seems to think tornadoes in the southeastern US is a new phenomenon due to climate change. My mom grew up in AL in the 50’s and regularly had to take shelter in their homemade storm shelter that was built into a hill behind their house. We don’t get the F4 & F5 monsters here but summer time tornadoes aren’t unheard of.

Lots of great stuff for kids is dark and brutal. But I also think the theatrical cut has major issues with the plot.

Mountain of Conflict

Yeah, I get that. Wished I liked the movie more, gave it three stars.

For me what makes Twister so enjoyable is the characters, not the effects. Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alan Ruck, Jamie Gertz... These are all great actors bringing a lot of life into even the silliest dialogue. This seems like a great group of people I'd enjoy just hanging out with, and that's what makes this a fun movie to revisit. That's honestly what so many other disaster movies are missing.

Keep in mind that when she leaves him she tells him she's not even that upset about it, like that's an indicator that they really weren't met to be together. This whole thing prevented the both of them from making a big mistake.

What’s gonna be the plot TWIST for the next remake/sequel?

The three "Fear Street" films released a week apart on Netflix in 2021, and the original Swedish three film adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" books were all released theatrically in Sweden in 2009, so at least two cases where three films in a series were released within a calendar year.

Don’t forget we’re getting 4 Beatles movies/biopics(?) (1 every 3 months) in 2027. They logically form one story.

I'm on the fence regarding The Fall. The film is unquestionably a masterpiece on a visual/production level. But I also agree with Jeff that the fairytale portion of the film is pretty silly, which makes sense when you consider it's a story being told to a young girl. But that's also undercut by how truly violent and dark the movie gets, even in the fairytale. If Tarsem just toned down the violence and darker themes in the film, the silliness would not have been an issue for me. The Fall could have been the most gorgeous children's movie ever made! Conversely, he could have cut down on the silliness and made a solid whimsical drama film for adults. Again, I love The Fall, but I think it's definitely held back by the fact that Tarsem just didn't pick a lane.

You’re welcome! I only know the pronunciation because I, too, have recently looked into this topic. 😅

Oof, so close! Thx for the correction. -DChen

Oh, Dave. Always the odd duck who often is the only one not loving a popular movie and then he simps for Twister 😁 I also rewatched it not too long ago and so funny how a movie that is just effects is now beloved because it seems less egregious than some modern movies.

Also the best byproduct of all these Legasequels is these afterdarks of you guys reviewing the old movies. I hope that means a 2001 Gladiator afterdark is coming!

As a Floridian I must correct Devindra, we did not just get out of hurricane season, it starts in mid-August 😔

I saw Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair at a friend’s house last year - I’m not entirely sure where he got it but I can guess. But it does exist out there to be seen if one wants. (It’s honestly not THAT different from the 2-movie cut, the black and white sequence in Vol. 1 is in full gory color and there are a couple of structural edits that leave the reveal of BB until the final act. But, having of course seen the “original” edit, that surprise was spoiled long ago so seeing it this way was only academic. Aside from that there’s really nothing different so it’s not worth losing much sleep over.)
