After Dark: Daniel Day-Lewis Is Returning to Acting, The Megalopolis Q&A Experience

It's pretty amazing that Devindra had so many strong opinions and reactions to the Megalopolis Q&A when he didn't even see it 😂

I don't think Devindra repeatedly saying Aubrey Plaza should have moderated this is because of feminism, but rather because Devindra has a crush on her. The way he was complaining recently about how she wasn't in Agatha All Along enough and how she was the only reason he was watching it, and now this just makes me think he's fetishizing her a bit (or a lot, I don't know).

Just to preface this and be super clear - I never have any doubts about the value of my Patreon subscription because y'all continue to be fucking excellent. But I gotta say, if I was struggling to justify it, this episode alone is worth a yearly sub lmao. I think my family was concerned for my health I was crying so much. Due to laughter, to be clear xD

This could be a good topic for an after dark. I believe Hollywood isn’t producing any new cult classics. The secondary market and culture in general is too fragmented, and there’s just too much volume of product, for films to catch on an gain a new life months/years after initial release. No one is finding films in video stores or on cable anymore. Movies on streamers don’t break out into the cultural conversation.

A mention of the second episode of The Simpsons „the yellow lotus“ would be great. 😉 Man, the intro was great

Marc Sontowski

Will Megalopolis become a cult classic? Seems like it has the makings of one.

Have you considered that maybe your idea of what “feminists” do and say takes up too much space in your brain and that you’d be better off using that space for something else?

Alex

How does "The Grip Method" not get commented on 🤣

Emmanuel Mompi

“Let Aubrey Plaza do the moderation!” “Let Lady Gaga do it!” yeah cuz they definitely won’t make it awkward and/or about themselves. Feminists man 🙄 I know we won’t be able go a single week with hearing some feminist cringeworthy BS 🙄

Great convo thanks gents

M Night and Daniel Day need to make a movie together now. All about nepotism.

David Stripinis

Not to nitpick but according to Dustin Hoffman, the Laurence Olivier quote was taken way out of context, and it was supposed to have been more in jest than anything else.

Rob

You should use the soundboard randomly more often. Although Jeff is kind of a human soundboard.

With the new Patreon billing news I've been reminded to go back and look to be sure I am supporting stuff I actually consume and/or support. This episode alone was worth my entire year's Patreon money. My family is about to call am ambulance because Dad is walking around doing household chores cackling like a madman.

Speaking on Spike Lee doing a random interview for an Imax screening. There was one he moderated the members of Talking Heads for Stop Making Sense during TIFF and it was awkward as hell. He wouldn't ask questions, just flat statements like "this is the greatest concert film of all time...." awkward pause. Or stuff like "favourite song from the concert" which would get smatters of applause. He just wasn't very good at teeing people up well for questions or discussion. Contrasted not long after with their Colbert appearance that went much smoother, more fun and flowing. It was a stark difference in what makes a good interviewer.

I’m first. I’m the best.
