Yeah insult me because I used Google to confirm my thoughts rather than like you spending a whole day re reading it. Denji being 17 is the only thing you reply too ignoring the actual point I was making and every other character and point mentioned him being 16 or 17 or 18 is mostly irrelevant. When he has his birthday he says it's my birthday. Not it's my 17th birthday either but unless you have an argument for why Aang is 16 also it's not relevant what you believe his age is so we can agree to disagree on that.

Lets be honest, how many people (especially young children) get powers or responsibility or whatever and instantly think "I'm going to do a noble thing and save humanity" or "Let's cure world hunger"? Most likely, they would abuse their power due to being young and naïve, and older characters would become corrupt. But the fact that CSM has denji act this way due to having almost 0 parental guidance, being a 16 year old boy, finally being out of crippling life-threatening debt makes sense. And even if you said it didn't, the show points it out a LOT

As stated in the manga, denji is 16, however he is unsure of his age due to his upbringing (so he probably didn't count the years, or keep track of his age). But unless its ever changed or confirmed at another point (which the manga currently hasn't done), denji was 16 at the start of Chainsaw Man. The age of 17 you are talking about is the very first search you get on google, which is referring to the manga where he has had his birthday (which you claim to have read)

SPOILERS AHEAD - PLEASE ONLY READ IF YOU HAVE READ ALL 12 VOLUMES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. 1) How does the manga peak after 85 chapters when the manga is still coming out? I mean, we have no idea how the show is going to go, especially from Tatsuki Fujimoto who is notorious for wild twists and amazing scenes. The 85th chapter is also an odd one to say that is the peak, considering its after the gun devil fight, but before the makima fight. Its also a chapter dedicated to Kobeni at a family burger place being abused, and failing to serve chainsaw man. 2) The anime adapts the manga extremely well and very faithfully. It adds a few extra scenes and struggles to adapt the humour well to anime form, but its very faithful to the manga. The only scene they cut from the 2nd episode is where denji tries to save a girl but ends up in a fight with a devil. So the showrunners didn't really have any impact on the show at all, considering it would mostly be animation, what to adapt, voice actors and music choice (which are all done very well in japanese)

Though I totally agree and it's not like a different dirsctor came in, usually that's exactly what happens and scene to scene, episode to episode there's different people managing and yeah I really hate that. More modern critique I wish shows just kept showrunners and they had a huge impact on the show.

2023-05-18 11:53:13 +0000 UTC[MILD SPOILERS COVERING THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF THE STORY] Yes, it does get better as far as the ‘fan service’ stuff goes. Long story short, Denji needs these shallow ‘goals’ right now as pretty soon in the story (as in, literally two more episodes) he discovers just how shallow those goals actually are. The show (imo) also kind of satirises and calls out certain tropes in anime (such as Makima’s whole obvious domme deal) as actually really messed up if you applied the same scenario to the real world, but you kind of have to follow the trope before inverting it. I still totally get why people wouldn’t want to watch it though, I feel the tone flip from episode 1 to episode 2 is super jarring. It kind of feels like a different writer/director took over and was like ‘Let’s shove all these ‘haha boobies’ anime jokes into the series now! The youth like those things right?’ But it does all come together as a solid package imo.

I’ll definitely enjoy the reaction, but man, CSM is probably the best manga I’ve read since I originally picked up Berserk. Code Geass is great, but much more traditionally so. It’s melodramatic and action packed, but almost entirely unbelievable you know? It’s total anime bullshit in all the best and worst ways, while CSM is curiously grounded.

He talked about how if he could do one thing before he died young devil-hunting it would be to score. He never really thought of it as possible due to his situation, but now that he’s debt free and has a job that provides him with disposable income and a stable living situation, he’s realizing he can consider physical intimacy as an option. Obviously he’s very immature about it, his lack of parental guidance and life so far has arrested his development pretty heavily, he’s only considering the physicality of it and not if what he actually wants is really intimacy. But I would say that’s his first step up the hierarchy. He’s moved on from purely existential, survival-based concerns.

We've gotten so used to our MC having grand and noble goals so it's quite entertaining when a MC has a very simple but juvenile goal driving them and seeing how various types of people react to it.

He has lived without anything nice, as he said no woman has ever spoken to him besides saying he stinks so as a 17 year old with a home, food and a job it's not insane for his wants to move towards companionship with an immature view of what that means. Since he says he couldn't date or get a woman he settles for what he sees as possible.
