***please read this whole thing first, lots of information here!
hey guys!!!! wow holy fuck i'm very excited to post this. I wanted to share a bit more 3D content as its such a passion of mine and I do know that a handful of you are - while perhaps not actively working on 3D art - interested in pursuing it.
for me personally, i learn the most by watching other people work. so what i wanted to do to intro this medium onto the patreon is do a very very very very long workshop, where I essentially record myself working from start to finish building a robot. I start from scratch and go through each step of my process in separate videos.
NOW, for this one I did not do any dialogue. the reason being is because the whole thing took about 10 hours and there is 9.5 hours of recorded content. i usually just chill and listen to music while doing 3d, and i use very simple techniques so i didn't feel the need to really talk through it, plus no one would want to listen to me for 10 hours i guarantee it!
HERE'S HOW I WOULD RECOMMEND GOING THROUGH THIS IF YOU'RE INTERESTED -
- skim through the titles. I aptly titled each of the 15 videos so you can pick which topic you're interested in seeing me perform and select that one!
- pick your video, and turn on 2x speed (i work slower in 3D, so 2x speed is still plenty fast to pick things out)
- use the scrubber to skim around a bit and then figure out the area where you want to watch me work, and then watch! easy.
SECONDLY... a few tips.
I use 3 buttons on my MMO mouse to greatly increase my workflow speed.
- The first button is mapped to F5, which I have set to CENTER VIEW TO CURSOR
- The second button is mapped to F6, which I have set to SNAP CURSOR TO SELECTED (OBJECT, ETC)
- The third button is mapped to F7, which I have set to MOVE SELCTED TO CURSOR
you can see how these things can be extremely useful.
ALSO...
- The website I use for textures is textures.com - a substantial amount of content is free if you sign up! i'd STRONGLY recommend it
- the use of assembling parts is called "kitbashing" and the main kitbash I use here is https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/various/various-models/hard-surface-kitbash-volume-2 - I can't recommend it enough!
IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, OR TOPICS YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN HAVING VIDEOS MADE ON, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK!!!!! :)
