Thanks for putting these together coach! One thing I don't think I quite understood is why you don't like having a clipper on the Drum group and prefer to just let them clip when they sum with everything else?

Brent Hronik

usually a good rule of thumb is to make them as loud as they can be without sounding like ass from distorting. this means they’ll be clipping a bit, so often a little bit louder than the volume they load in at. drums are one where we have to “use our ears” to make sure they’re loud enough to stick out compared to the synths, but not so loud to be overbearing and distort a lot.

how loud should the kick and snare be when mixing? Most samples are maxed out so im guessing that the volume of the kick and snare shouldnt need to be adjusted if the sidechain is on the whole track... does this make sense and is that a good practice?

Hey are we supposed to make that Serum FX preset ourselves or is it supposed to load in there automatically with the rack? Mine loads a blank Serum :(

wish I could! unfortunately marshmello has the final project for that song and I don't have a copy, and my original project file is corrupt :/ sorry!!

volume automation is simply superior for getting a cleaner "hole" for your drums - that said the reason I use serum over shaperbox is simply because i don't like the way shaperbox works lol. and from an educator standpoint, almost everyone has serum, but not everyone has SB. the reason I use serum over manual automation is because it is substantially faster!

thank u so much for this!!! you're an amazing teacher! wanted to ask you.. is there any chance to see (or even get..) the project file of 'falling to pieces' by you and mello?.. would be cool! thanks

really helpful! also if you don't mind me asking, why do u prefer to use serum for sidechaining your stuff?
