Mega64 Movie Club: Ghost in the Shell
Added 2021-02-01 10:12:24 +0000 UTC
Quick note to start this off- we've had some behind the scenes technical snags, so our video posts have been a little delayed. We'll absolutely make up for it, but we apologize in the meantime for these atrocities:
1. We have a new Friendimension coming for you shortly
2. Some behind the scenes footage from the vault coming too
3. Version 2 episodes have finished their run, but we plan to add the bonus features soon too. We were supposed to have the documentary up already, but ran into technical issues. We'll add a ton of bonus features soon and make up for lost time.
Now here's the new episode of Movie Club- before we get to the description, just want to let you know that this episode has probably the best ending ever.
This week on Movie Club, we watch Ghost in the Shell, an influential anime movie released 1995. The movie follows Major Motoko Kusanagi as she is looking for the mysterious hacker "The Puppet Master" What did we think of this early 90s anime cyberpunk romp? Tune in to find out!
Way of the Dragon for me. Fully written and directed by Bruce Lee as well.

I wanna say I heard the intricacies in the machinery and the level of detail with everything that is technology in this movie is to show and support the idea that we have created things as complex as us and that we are closer to the AI offspring moment than most would imagine, but I could be trippin

As others have said, you guys should definitely check out Stand Alone Complex if you enjoyed this movie. It isn't really related to the movies in any way other than being based on the same source material but it is a legit awesome series. It features all the same characters for the most part, but you get a much better feel for the team dynamics that they couldn't really explore as much in the movie. Not to mention it's streaming on Hulu! Thanks for the awesome discussion guys!

Stand Alone Complex is a must watch classic too, but other than that and the 2 movies the other GITS stuff kinda stinks.

The more you watch this movie the better it gets. There are so many little details you wont notice on a first watch.

As for the ending, we got hit by lightning. You can see the flash in Derrick's webcam and then the loud smack of thunder through all the microphones!

Sorry for Derrick's audio being poor- a new webcam changed the settings. We recorded one more episode after this one but it'll be fixed in the one after that.

All three of you guys touched on parts of how I felt about this movie. This was a super fun discussion. I have been listening to you guys talk about movies for a decade now, so am I me or am I an amalgam of you guys? Heavy stuff.

The hell happened at the end?
I only watched this once and I loved the vibe and visuals. It didn't grab me much beyond that but I'm really interested to check it out again. I have a friend that absolutely loves Stand Alone Complex, but I've yet to check that out aside from the soundtrack.

I'm surprised they didn't mention the multiple anime tv series that were well received by the public - not counting the abomination on Netflix. I love the soundtracks composed by Yoko Kanno.
