Mega64 Record Club Ep. 2 - B.B. King "Live at the Regal" (Album #299)

The second episode of Shawn's Record Club show is here with special guest Garrett Hunter! He's jumping to a random album in the "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" book that Rolling Stone put together. Today he's landed on #299, "Live at the Regal" by B.B. King.

BB King is such a great artist. Loved this album!

Loving this series so much!

Bill Murphy

It's rightfully a seminal blues album but the audience is way too obnoxious and distracts from the great performance.

Love the dynamic with Garrett and Shawn. I think having someone to bounce stories off of is a good vibe. Also, going through the albums track by track more or less would be neat. It's fun as is, too. Loving the show!

Garrett should be the permanent co-host of this series. Love this show so far!

It’d be nice to have guests regularly I imagine! Also fun to find new music or just listen to stuff i normally wouldn’t. Hot Buttered Soul is pretty fun! Thanks for the show πŸ™

Loving this series, and listening along with albums I haven't ever heard nor likely would unless this came about.

PlatinumSarge

Just finished my first listen of Hot Buttered Soul 😎

Great episode! Loving this series and listening along! In case you haven't considered it yet, you might try to find a number generator that lets you exclude numbers you've already gotten. Not a big deal now, but once you're 250 albums deep you're going to have a 50% chance of pulling albums you've already reviewed. Good to start early on keeping a running list of all the numbers you've already done so you don't have to go back and get them later when this becomes an issue. Excited for the next episode!

Great episode, Garrett is the perfect partner for this. Really enjoying this show!

100% agreed. I like to think I have good taste in music, but I am severely lacking in "classics" knowledge

This series has quickly become a core part of my week. The perfect excuse for me to discover music I otherwise have missed, especially live albums.

Travis Morphy

That segue from Nirvana Unplugged into the BB King album they're talking about is exactly why Shawn should totally be teaching that class they brought up on the podcast recently. Man's a pro. Digging these a lot so far. I haven't ventured too far out of my general taste range for a good while now so this is a great impetus to just try out some new shit.

Haven't watched this yet but just want to say that this series arrived at a perfect time. I stay up on the music I like but it's easy to bemoan not knowing more of "the classics." This is a great way to get out of one's rotation.

This is the kind if music I was raised on- old blues and rock and roll on top of the basic dad rock stuff from my parents. Loved listening to this album and I also agree that the live versions are better. Blues music is always better with a crowd whaling to it in my opinion. I also liked this one because it feels like youre at a club listening to BB. Really good album, great musician.
