I'm surprised we actually hit 5 patrons.
Aight, well, I'm a man of my word. For the most part.
The Hip-Hop Docktrine 5 mixtape began as a very simple experiment. It all started with myself playing around in Photoshop, listening to the Hip Hop Docktrine 3: Final Chapters mixtape. The Boondocks had recently been announced to be returning with Aaron McGruder behind it. And, I wasn't a big fan of the fourth mixtape. So, I went... what if?

It was a simple idea.
Maybe feature a few tracks? Throw in some Asheru? Some of Metaphor's new stuff? Call it a night. Just a small YouTube video to celebrate the legacy. Nothing too special.
Around this time, The Boondocks had made a Twitter account, so I changed around the design to accommodate this.

A big part of the inspiration to keep this project going was the fact that I wasn't really fond of how The Boondocks was marketing itself, with its Twitter account. It felt lazy, half-assed and downright dated.

Like what is this, man?
Not only do we have Huey here lookin' like MegaMan, but this is the type shit I'd see in 2012. It's 2019. Times have changed. Aaron is an old-head, I get it, but if there were any appropriate time to say it... this ain't it chief.

So, I made it more of an effort to see this mixtape through. I got more serious with it. Started DM'ing big names and artists, and throwing out emails. I wanted the world to know that The Boondocks was back, and it was coming back with a bang. It didn't always work, but we got a lot of responses, and unsurprisingly, not a lot of people even knew The Boondocks was back. But, a lot of people were on board with providing music to support it.
Around this time, I'd gotten in contact with Metaphor The Great (more on this in the next part) and he was down with hosting the mixtape. In addition, I was playing around with how to present this mixtape on YouTube, with the audio spectrum. I used these uploads as teasers on Twitter too.

And, then I met Doryan. And, everything changed.

Doryan was essentially just as passionate about The Boondocks as I was, and we share many of the same views on the series. And something he brought to the table was art. Not just art, but high quality art that understood The Boondocks series.

He was also very passionate about seeing The Boondocks pilot. More on that in Part 2.
And, with his artistic talent, the scale of the project grew astronomically. We wanted to make the marketing for this mixtape the best it could possibly be. If there's something I can say for sure about Doryan, knowing him for I wanna say roughly a year? He's all about pushing himself to make things as big and great as he can. And, it's one of his greatest traits, and it shines through in the work he ends up doing for the HHD5 mixtape.
This is all I can discuss for now without making this too long. But, next time, we'll go into the creative battles, the ideas thrown around, the music, the hosts and bringing back old artists.
For now, enjoy the storyboard for what was supposed to be the Hip-Hop Docktrine 5 Animated Teaser. Stay fresh, y'all~

And, shout out to myself for misspelling Docktrine, and not getting the pun until Doryan told me about it~
