Feminism and Empowerment.

This was a video I worked on around the time of the Representing Black Women video. I never got around to finishing it sadly, but after rewatching Kill La Kill, it really gave me the spark to reignite the idea.

I think... there's something to be said about this idea of empowering people through their sexuality and how we've created a contradictory culture surrounding what a woman should be, based around patriarchy.

People tend to hear feminism and roll their eyes, cause' like many movements that people wish to undercut, they take individual problematic people and use it as a means to discredit and invalidate the oppression.

But, I think it's important to bare in mind. It's frustrating to me to often interact with many people who have, very much, absorbed these backwards ideas on what it means to be feminine. And low down on those wish to embrace their sexuality for whatever purpose, despite the bigoted and often hypocritical roots of it.

I'm not a saint either. I'd be lying to you if I said I never felt discomfort to such things in the past. But, it's important to understand why those biases exist, be self-critical and act to absolve them from your world view.

I'm having a lot of fun with this one. More on this and the other video soon.
