Mega64 Record Club Ep. 45 - Nirvana - Nevermind (#6)
Added 2024-01-18 14:00:12 +0000 UTC
Just a quick content warning: This episode has discussion of sexual assault when we talk about the song Polly, it starts at 54:20 and ends at 1:00:33, if you'd like to skip that part.
Buckle up everyone, we have the longest Record Club Yet! Garrett is back again and we talk about the album that changed his life. We are also trying to play a little bit of each song so there may be an ad or two that the record label put in. So give me feedback if you think if ad free is best or if you think it's worth it to hear some of the music we are talking about. Thank and hope you enjoy!

Great episode, it was awesome hearing Garrett talk in depth about his favorite band. I assume In Utero is on this also. Great record though obviously. Had some long drives this week and mainly listened to this album and the podcast during them lol. 4.5/5 for me

Seconding the content warning - thanks guys π«Ά
It was so much fun watching this one live, I didnβt even realize it was closer to two hours than one. Garrett definitely beat Dick lol
I finally placed what Lounge Act reminded me of - I had said it sounded 60s but specifically the song βAlone Again Orβ by Love. Iβm no music expert but something about the chord progression? The way Kurt hits the lyrics? is very reminiscent. Let me know if Iβm crazy!! (Itβs kind of like how a lot of early punk bands were influenced by bubblegum pop - but made it βharder.β)
Drain You is the stand-out though, the vocals have a bounce to them that sticks in my brain.
As for next week, Iβm not going to say itβs a stinker but itβs not my favorite. Last year I said βIβm going to listen to a lot of Power Pop!β And when I got to Big Star I was a little underwhelmed. I think I like Power Pop with a little more βpower.β

The band and album that got me into music!
I haven't listened to Nevermind in full since probably 2010 but every song flooded right back immediately like it was yesterday.
Growing up, Lithium was my first favourite Nirvana song but after this week I think it might be On a Plain.
I could gush forever but now I must listen to Garrett gush forever.
