Mega64 Record Club (Bonus Episode #1) Alexandria Savior - Belladonna of Sadness

Hello everyone! This week since I'm out of town I thought I would pick an album that I like that isn't on the Rolling Stone top 500 list. This week I picked a artist that I found about a year ago Alexandria Savior. Check it out and we will get back to the Rolling stone list next week!

Mega64 Record Club (Bonus Episode #1) Alexandria Savior - Belladonna of Sadness

Comments

This is the first album that I listen to alot I've seen on record club so far. I really like artist, very cool to hear what Shawn thinks about it

Tom

I love Alexandria Savior. I saw her perform a few years ago and her voice is fantastic live. I've also never heard anyone outside of that show ever bring her up. Had no idea that Alex Turner was involved in the production on the album. I've been a big Alex Turner fan for a while and can definitely hear the influence in the writing. I think you'd be into the album Everything You've Come To Expect by his other band The Last Shadow Puppets.

I really dug Belladonna of Sadness! Her haunting voice reminds me a lot of Lana Del Rey, and I love all of LDR's music. Thanks for the bonus episode!

Wasn't feeling Belladonna of Sadness tbh. Also Bad Things was almost good, but the guitar got really irritating.

I think you may like some Arctic Monkeys. Their album ‘Humbug’ was produced by Josh Homme and it certainly shows. Most of the albums are quite different to each other too which I like a lot.

This album was so moody! Another good one for the fall and/or nighttime. Alexandria Savior’s dreamy voice really scratched an itch but I liked when she was a little rougher with her vocals, too. I guess it’s kind of desert rock, dream pop, basement core? I totally got some mid-career Arctic Monkeys vibes from the record (I haven’t kept up with them for a long time so I’m not sure what they’re like now) so I can see where Alex Turner had a hand in the sound. Savior also reminded me a little of beabadoobee, the interplay of soft and harsh vocals. (I haven’t kept up with beabadoobee either, oops) Mirage, Girlie and MTME were my faves - especially Girlie. Overall, a very solid listen! Also, I haven’t seen Belladonna of Sadness but I read the synopsis a while back and it is FUCKED. UP. I don’t think you would enjoy it, Shawn. (Notably, the anime was made by Mushi Pro - the same studio as Astro Boy.) The Mini Mansions song was a lot of fun, I definitely have them queued up for further listening. PS: the Minneapolis show was great! I hope you all had a fantastic time in the Twin Cities and maybe come back some time? There’s a lot more to check out! And my sweetie and I are glad you are keeping these up while on the road, we (especially me) look forward to Record Club every week :)

I liked this record, very mysterious vibes with great lyrics and vocal performances. 3 pieces of vinyl. Girlie and Mirage are probably my favorite tracks. Hope the tour is going well, I’ll see you guys in Philly!

Edit: He's never listened to them. Shawn, there's your next deep-dive!

I can't decide between Shades and Mystery Girl as my favourite track but I really loved both of them! 💿💿💿/𝟓 Shawn do you like the Arctic Monkeys? They feel made for you, from the not-too-much I've heard from them. I really liked the song you chose this week too! Felt like something I would hear during the Summer on the radio on the drive to visit my grandma. 😅 was cute.
