Mega64 Record Club Ep. 21 - Kasey Musgraves - Golden Hour (#270)

Record Club is back baby! In this episode I have guest and long time friend of Mega64 Sarah Brown on to talk about this 2018 album. Did we love it? Did we hate it? You gotta watch to find out!

It has been a weird six minutes on Spotify realizing I've never heard "Closer" before

Hell yeah, I gave it the same rating you did. This album rocks. Sara also was a great guest. She has a very soothing voice and was knowledgeable even without having any prior notice of being on the show which is impressive

Oh also, what is the song of the week? Not sure if you said it or not

I actually listened to this album the day it came out. I joined a website; Album of the Year, about 11 years ago and when Golden Hour released it very quickly was ranked #1 of 2018. (it's #77 now lol) At the time, I gave it a 7/10. Which was much higher than I anticipated but not even in my top 25 of that year, but I was equally as shocked when Pitchfork (I was a big hipster when I was younger please forgive me) gave this an 8.7/10! In 2023 I'd probably give it closer to an 8/10 and 💿💿💿.𝟓/𝟓. Still not one of my favourites, not totally sure if I understand it's placement on this list, but it being on here reminds me of when it released and thinking the exact same thing then, so pretty cool that it persists. Wonder Woman was my favourite track.

Great episode, Sara killed it. I don’t love this album but it is kind of sentimental for me because I bought the CD for my wife when it first came out. I also do really like Kasey. Super happy that she’s found so much success. Her message is super down to earth. Velvet Elvis is the best song on this for sure.

Sara was a delightful guest! Very serendipitous for her to be around! Record Club has taught me that I can get behind country when it’s performed by women, I think. Golden Hour was a good pull for this time of year, too. I loved Oh, What a World’s ELO-inspired sound best of all! Wonder Woman and High Horse were my next favorites. Looking forward to Wu-Tang Clan not so much hearing Born to Run for the millionth time lol

I am not a country fan at all. So I went into this thinking "oh boy, better just get this over with" and when it was over, I was thinking it's maybe the best album that's been on this show so far. I absolutely loved it. Haven't listened to the ep yet so I'm curious to see what you say
