Mega64 Movie Club: Oldboy

We were gone this past weekend due to all our 64X insanity. Hopefully you've watched that whole event and all its highlights on YouTube by now! We had a great time and hopefully you did too. But now, let's get back to Patreon.

The day has finally arrived! Rocco got Shawn to watch the classic Korean film OLDBOY and we get to hear what he thought of it! This oughtta be FUN! Believe it or not, both these guys hadn't ever seen it until this last month. Let's see what they both got out of it after missing out for 20 years!

Next episode is DOC HOLLYWOOD.

I agree with Rocco on the teeth, but, I think its because we watched Herbie do it to elves in Rudolph and now we are traumatized

One of my all time favorites, great episode and i love how you both have differing opinions on it. Not sure if you already know this but this is the middle film of a thematic trilogy by Park Chan-wook and i would absolutely recommend the first film "Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance"

pretty sure I saw this in a theater full of other people experiencing it for the first time. you could just hear the collective groaning from everyone during the last 1/3 when everything in the revenge scheme was falling into place. really respect that this is a movie where the villain essentially wins also Doc Hollywood will be a fun one. I watched that after years of hearing "Cars just did this movie but with cars" and was shocked...SHOCKED at how beat for beat the two really are.

I’m with Rocco on this. Breaking the teeth with the blunt side of the hammer is 1000% times worse than prying the teeth out with the backside of the hammer. I was legit relieved when he turned the hammer around to pry the teeth out instead.

I still have a few of his films to go through, but I agree. Everything I've seen so far has been dope

Decison to Leave was great I really enjoyed it, he seems to have chilled out a bit in his more recent films haha. All of Park Chan-Wook's Korean films are worth checking out too he's so good.

Really glad I got to hear y'all talk about this movie! Though I felt bad for Shawn. I will say though for anyone curious, the other three movies in Park Chan-wook's Vengeance trilogy are also definitely worth checking out. Though they don't reach the same level as Oldboy imo. His newest film though, Decision to Leave, was damn good and I highly recommend it! Well shot with really good writing and some solid twists and turns

I believe the American remake (which features scenes that are burned into my memory with Josh Brolin) has all the same plot lines and twists as the original film.

Aw shit! This is gonna be a good one!
