I’m surprised you hadn’t listened to more Led Zeppelin, they’re my fav band with jack whites groups right below for me along with a handful of other bands I know you’re into too. I hear a ton of influence on jack from jimmy, tho a lot of jimmys influences are jacks too. Happy to hear your two fav songs were the same as mine from this. If you’ve never seen the documentary it might get loud, check it out. It’s got both jimmy page and jack white (also edge from U2) together talking and riffing. Hope zeppelin III is on the list, I think you’d be surprised at the style and sound of that album by them.

Super happy this exits. Definitely one of my favorite things to look forward to :)

This record is great. It reminds me of getting high with my best friends in university. The only real dud for me is Boogie With Stu. I always forget how long this album is. I don't think it's that bad tbh, I just noticed it near the end anyway. This album is legendary and if you don't get it I feel bad for you. 4.5/5

There’s a difference In critiquing something based on the content and critiquing it for just being long. How come 5-8 minutes is so long for people? Does everything have to be a weezer song? That’s why it tells me they aren’t actually trying to listen to it. There are definitely two types of music listeners: those who listen to fun lyrics, and those who love listening to the instruments. I think people who listen for the first reason won’t get this album or anything from Led Zep or hard rock, psychedelic rock, heavy metal for that matter.

You HAVE to like what Jon-Paul likes or you're just a mindless radio consumer.

🙄 FWIW, Hot Buttered Soul is probably my favorite Record Club album so far. Marquee Moon by Television, Live Having You Around, Superwoman, and Keep On Running by Stevie Wonder and other Long songs can be great! Just not these lol

Yikes, some people in the comments really must only listen to 2 minute long top 100 pop songs. Imagine thinking Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin sucks because “the songs are too long”. It’s pretty much the same as not liking LOTR or The Godfather for the same reason.

This made me realize that I don’t like Led Zeppelin lmao. Was not into this one other than Kashmir and the Wonton song. The rest was a real slog for me. Everything about it just comes off as excessive and showoff-y. 2/5 for this one but Jumping Jack Flash I actually really liked. Stoked for the smiths next week!

Way back in the Los Angeles by X episode, Shawn mentioned the problem he has with the Doors where they have a great riff but the songs just go on and on and on and wear out its welcome. This had that issue for me. I’ll give Led Zeppelin another shot when they inevitably come up again in the countdown but MAN this was a slog. I really can’t stand the singer’s wailing and moaning, I have such a negative reaction to his voice I am repulsed. HOWEVER, I can hear how influential the group was and see how they earned their standing in the history of rock music. And we wouldn’t have the great gag in Fast Times at Ridgemont High where Damone’s 5 Point Plan says to turn on side 1 of Led Zepp IV for making out and it cuts to Rat and Stacy sitting silent in the car with Kashmir blasting. A+ Kashmir’s hook is incredible and iconic but that’s all I need from that. Trampled Under Foot, Down by the Seaside and the Wanton Song are all I can see myself revisiting. Instead this week I ended up listening to a couple 70s Lou Reed live albums a bunch. Sweet Jane turned out to be my most-scrobbled song, too lol

Wanted to start by saying; I love you with all my heart, Shawn! 💙 Not sure why I've had it in my head my whole life that I hated Led Zeppelin. Went in expecting homework. Well, it was much better than I anticipated! Thankfully the first two songs were two of the best for me, so it eased me in well. Ten Years Gone was my overall favourite though. 💿💿💿/𝟓
