2024-04-24 16:01:27 +0000 UTCI don't like this album. Part of it is Lorde's voice. She kinda reminds me of Kilo Kish and I can't deal with that dramatic whispery bullshit. But yea, the title is accurate in that it is a very melodramatic album. Homemade Dynamite was ok. The second half of sober 2 was ok. This is hoooonestly like 0.5-1/5 for me. Lorde have mercy. Can't WAIT for Cuban Links. Nice palate cleanser.

2023-09-28 15:16:53 +0000 UTCListening to this album felt like I was eavesdropping on someone with a more interesting life than mine. Which, duh - but I felt like I shouldn’t be allowed to peek in. I was a big fan of Green Light, Homemade Dynamite, Liability, Supercut and Perfect Places. Supercut stood out as like, a ‘modern’ way of looking at a relationship. I can’t picture anyone using that terminology in a pre-2010s world. That said, it reminded me of when you can’t fall asleep because your mind is racing going over all the terrible/embarrassing/etc moments you’ve had. Part of me wonders if Melodrama was included as a way to give Jack Antonoff a bit of a nod - I’ll be keeping an eye out on the remaining ‘new’ picks to see how often he pops up. I suspect we’ll see more since he’s a bit of an it-guy right now!

(Wet Dream sounds like iPod commercials to me - maybe a little Ting Tings-y? Also a little like that Barbra Streisand wooo woooo wooo woooooo song)
