Mega64 Record Club Ep. 33 - 2PAC- All Eyez on me (#436)

Did you know Shawn and 2PAC were both born on June 16th?! What other crazy facts did we find out about this double album by him? Gotta watch to find out!

Hadn't listened to this in YEARS. I always felt like this was too long (the vinyl is a 4LP!!!), but it has so many bangers front to back that there is easily a double album of just hits on here.

Came up listening to hip-hop in the era of Lil Wayne and for that reason Tupac was never much in my rotation. Totally agree with the rating and attitude toward these long albums! Rolling Stone has been exposed!!!

Wild Honey’s runtime looks real good right about now

I’m not the most experienced in hip hop or rap but I think I like G-Funk. Hearing that Cameo sample in All About U immediately grabbed me and that remained my favorite song on this album. I’ll echo what Paul and Tyler said - some of the songs ran a little long and could have been trimmed down a bit. And either I was fatigued for disc 2 or the first disc was better. Aside from All About U, Skandalouz, Only God Can Judge Me and Can’t C Me were my faves. What’z Ya Phone # started out fairly strong and I loved the frantic energy! But lost me a bit with the skit - I’m not a big skit fan to begin with. As for the song? I love love love Carly Rae Jepsen. She only gets better from Call Me Maybe on so anything from almost any other of her albums (especially Emotion) would have been a better choice. I saw a Miranda Lambert concert about ten years ago, she was fine. She performed Gimme Some Lovin’ which tickled me as a Blues Brothers fan. One of her older songs sounds like she’s singing “I ate your baby!” So I like that.

He did the Makaveli album after this one, which is one of his best

Just so you know Shawn, the Rolling Stone blurb says “similar to Rhythm Nation, but thugged out, forgive me Janet” because that’s a line from the album.

Out of the 100s of hip hop records I've heard, this is probably the most consistent for an album of this length. Almost no duds for the whole 2+ hours. Extremely talented guy. Shame we didn't really get to see where he went from here.

I listen to a lot of hip hop, but for some reason not much 2pac. I think I only heard the don killuminati through fully. So yea I thought this would be really good. Two hours huh...? Two hours of great hip hop!! 🥴 This album should have been an hour long, and it would have been amazing. My second listen was better, but I think if the tracklist stopped after California Love it would have been fantastic. Most songs linger too long. There are no songs under 4 minute on this album, and there are 12/27 that are longer than 5 minutes. It just gets too indulgent at times. There are also straight shitty beats, like What's Ya Phone #. Wonda Why They Call U Bytch's message seems really dated. Some of the singing also sounds dated here. There are a lot of great songs here, don't get me wrong. They just get bogged down. I'd give this a 3-3.5/5. Please no more 2 hour albums. Idk what next week's is but people don't seem too excited...

Tyler Lajevardi

Next week is the least excited I've been for one of these. Fuck my life.

Loved this one a lot. I love when record club forces me to dive deeper into an album I’ve listened to before and then I end up liking it way more than I did before. This was long and sometimes felt a little stale but overall there were some really great moments on this one. 4/5 for me. Favorite songs are Life Goes On, How Do U Want It, and Skandalouz, to name a few. Also, I’m sorry but Call Me Maybe sounds exactly like Rebecca Blacks Friday lmao. Same bullshit but with completely opposite reactions. Also also, next weeks albums gonna be fuckin rough
