Nice clean mp3 very good indeed.

Such a big fan of the dust brothers, especially their work on the fight club soundtrack. This truly is a cool album. Beck is just in his own world riffin’. 3.5/5

Pearstrike

One of my all time favorite records, I grew up listening to this. If i remember correctly the last track was actually a hidden track after 10 minutes of silence. Beck put it on there to scare people who left the record on as a joke.

Jackass is definitely my favorite off this. This is one of my favorite albums!

LumpyNehar

Why did it resonate with kids so much? I mean, I was one of them.

Heathcliff

One of my all time favorite records from when I was a kid.

Really surprised you hadn't heard this one all the way through. This album always came off to me as one you would really enjoy. I personally really like this album. Used to listen to it a bunch back in high school. It's not one of my favs, but I always have a great time whenever I come back to it. Very solid production and songwriting. I don't feel there's a bad song on here. Lord Only Knows, Novacane and Sissyneck are my favorites. Interested to hear you talk about Moondance. Astral Weeks is a waaaay better album, but Moondance is solid. X-Ray Spex are dope too! Older punk band with a female singer and they had a saxaphone player. Can't wait till you get to their debut album in the Top 500 book. Appreciate you Shawn! Especially in these times. Thank you for all that you do dude.

Thank you for sharing that Chip Tune cover of E-pro! Guero is my favorite album but this was such a great video!

Hotdog Jones

Hey Shawn! Look up the Amen break!

On one hand, I agree with Shawn that there's no shortage of cool ideas on this album. On the other, I do not share the same nostalgia for it. It's an album you need to be in the mood for.

I feel like almost every song on this album has passages and parts I really like but then beck drags the songs on too long and the eccentricity/oddness of each song will start to wear on me cuz he’ll move to a passage or part I get annoyed by or don’t like lol. I feel like devils haircut avoids this and wish he had edited down a lot of the other tracks below 4mins. I’d give this a 3 out of 5. Lot of cool sampling overall on this, def agree it should be on the list.

Beck rules, classic shit. Definitely really inspired the hell outta me hearing this stuff in middle school. The use of samples and recreating the samples is so good. and holy shit, X-Ray Spex!!! RIP Poly Styrene, I love Germ Free Adolescents -- honestly a punk essential. Shit still rings true today, almost 50 years later. Genuinely surprised to see Rolling Stone acknowledge them.

New Engery Shawn !!!

The only songs that I’ve heard from Beck, are “Loser”, which I think is a decent song, and I also remember seeing the “Nausea” puppet music video for the first time at a Hard Rock Cafe in Denver. I gave Odelay a listen and thought it was Okay, a 3/5. But listing to it again with you and hearing fun factoids made me change my mind. So I decided to up it to a 4. Beck definitely has a recognizable style of his own, but like you, I thought some songs were just okay. I agree with the fact that most people could find at least one song they like, because each song is a different genre, while still maintaining the Beck style. My Favorite Songs: Hotwax Lord Only Knows Jackass Minus (My fav) Ramshackle (I also thought the hidden song in Ramshackle was dumb) When you reach 100 albums you should tell us your favorite stuff that you’ve found. Is there anything that you’ve listened to that now resides in your everyday playlist?

Jake Songstad

I agree, the album is frontloaded with the best stuff - the varied genres was reminiscent of Sandinista! (But less of a chore to listen to.) Lord Only Knows, Sissyneck and Deadweight were my top tracks. Deadweight’s opening reminded me of Katamari and Austin Powers - I guess because of the fuzzy bossa nova vibe. The deluxe edition has a fun mariachi arrangement of Jack-ass called “Burro,” I deff recommend checking that out if anyone hasn’t! There were a couple Komondors at the Minnesota State Fair this year, it was like seeing this album in real life - I always thought it was a jumping haystack when I was a kid! X Ray Spex rules - Oh Bondage Up Yours is an all-tome classic. Can’t wait to hear what y’all think of that one!!

I mean it's no Midnite Vultures

I could write a song! With real words, not phony ones like odelay.

I always appreciate Beck's grungy folk style. Sometimes my first impression with his songs is like "he's trying too hard to be different", but its a risk i can appreciate. Plus generally im a sucker for great sample based loops. Beck had a couple songs on the game Sound Shapes that im not sure were ever released officially, but they were edited to play as full length songs by a guy on youtube and they're great!

I'm happy to see Shawn so happy 💛🤎

Holy shit!! This is the first album I ever obsessed over all the way back in elementary school, and after that I went head over heels into Beck's discography. Super excited to watch this!

crazybingo

One of the biggest albums of my early high school days, excited for this!
