Shawn talking about how Contact was like the robots going home and never coming back, gave me chills. Great episode and solid album. I’m more of a Discovery fan though personally. 3.5/5

Last album I ever purchased!

I'm getting sick of the offhanded Who slander haha

Neil Steffens

one of the greatest of all time

You did promo videos for apb(reloaded)? We need to see that some day

Animal Collective is one of this bands where I only can find one song on every album that I like but find most of it okay. The album Strawberry Jam however is a solid.

I haven’t listened to this album in a very long time, so I’m glad to have gotten a reason to revisit it. This is one of those albums where when I listen to it, it brings me back to a very specific time and place. I first heard of Daft Punk in 2009 when I was in an art class in college. The students were all asked to bring in art from an artist they liked, and one kid brought in music from Daft Punk instead of a drawing or painting. The teacher allowed it and I agreed with that decision, because their music is definitely art. Yes all music is art, but Daft Punk is on another level. This album is groovy as heck and as someone who is not much of a dancer, I can’t help but to tap my feet and bob my head to this. Beautiful album. 4/5. If anyone out there enjoys this album I highly recommend you go watch the animated film they made called, Interstellar 5555. My favorite songs: Give Life Back to the Music Giorgio by Moroder Within Instant Crush Get Lucky Fragments of Time

I was talking about the beginning of the synth kicking in, which I think is from an 70s or 80s sci fi movie -Rocco

Fun discussion! I gotta point out, the intro of "Contact" is not from any movie, that's part of an actual conversation from the Apollo 17 mission, the final time man stepped foot on the moon! The object they are talking about turned out to be a part of the launch vehicle.

I thought I was a big Daft Punk nut. So glad hearing this stuff never knew about them and hearing their thoughts on one of the beat albums.

I’m sorry to be that guy on this episode. I think Random Access Memories is insanely overrated. I really wanted to love this album because I really enjoy Daft Punk. I love 70’s/80’s music, especially synth heavy stuff and I like pretty much every artist on this album. I think the overhype definitely played a part in me not fully enjoying this album. I remember when this album came out and Lose Yourself to Dance and Get Lucky were being played everywhere. I think Lose Yourself to Dance is boring and annoying. Get Lucky is better, but not enough to warrant the amount of play it got. And I love Pharrell, easily a top 5 producer for me. Not caring for these two songs and everyone glazing this album, I put off listening to it for a while. When I finally checked it out, it just didn't match the hype everyone was giving it for me. Imo, the main problem I have with this album is that it chases its influences too hard and doesn't do enough new and interesting things with them. Which really made me laugh when you guys shit on Destiny’s Child and Lil Wayne, two artists that are easily more original than this album lol Even though I think this album is overrated, I still think it’s a good album and there’s some great songs on here. Give Life Back to Music, Giorgio by Moroder, Within, Touch and Beyond are all dope. Everything else is very hit and miss for me. I think Discovery and Homework are much better and more interesting. I even like Alive 2007 more than RAM. Sorry to have such a down opinion. Especially since I thought this was a good episode and it’s nice to see you guys, especially Rocco, be so into an album. I totally understand why people really dig this album. I can't speak on The Who album, but I think you'll enjoy The Modern Lovers song. That's a band I think you’d really enjoy.

Fantastic episode! This album is truly incredible, and it was great to hear you guys talk about it! Fun fact: in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the USA ice dance pair Chock and Bates did a routine to a medley of Contact, Within, and Touch. I wonder if Shawn saw it!

Great Episode! Good Ending!

Loved this episode. Mostly because I listened the shit out of this album back in college and for years after, to the point where I completely tired myself out of it, many of the tracks hitting the skip reflex in my brain, but great to revisit each track years later and really appreciate in detail why I fell in love with this album in the first place.

Kevin G

Great episode. Loved the ending when the album for next week got picked lol 😂

I’d be really interested to see where Rocco ranks Daft Punks first album Homework. To me this is a 5/5 album but somehow because Daft Punks discography is like almost flawless imo, this ranks 3rd on the list for me of their albums, which is crazy. I remember putting in for off work ahead of time so I could take the release day off to go pick up the preordered vinyl and CD from my local record shop. But the Friday before it came out, they called and told me “oh hey this preorder of yours is in, you can come pick it up.” So I ended up getting it several days earlier. This is the only DP album that I was a fan during the release day, so it holds so many memories like you talked about for me too on the internet rumors and ads leading up to it. The one thing I always heard that I wish came true, was that they were making an album like the music they used to sample, so they could then use the songs on the album to sample and make an older style homework or discovery type album with. I was expecting y’all to hate the song doin it right lol cuz of how repetitive it is (I love it). I was hopeful I’d like animal collective because of that but nope lol. Long live the robots 🥲

We're up all night to get lucky.

If you take his vocals out, maybe 🤭

You goof, that Panda track makes you groove and zoom.

ROADRUNNER!!!

Paul Williams makes this album for me. Touch has been my favorite for years - Instant Crush and Giorgio by Moroder round out my top three. (Contact is really good but I’d rather just listen to We Ride Tonight by the Sherbs.) Can’t freaking STAND that Panda Bear song, though. 2013 man - What a year for Pharrell!! Also, anyone looking for a fun Moroder oddity should check out one of his first two albums - they’re not the greatest bubblegum in the world but a cool listen.

I think the "Official Audio" for Get Lucky kinda fulfills the role of their choice for a not-so-traditional music video.
