Liked the punk vibes on this one but it didn’t really blow me away or anything. This is one that you can just have in the background though and vibe to for half an hour. Not bad but not 100% my thing. 3/5 for me

This album really didn’t do it for me. Everything is the same and boring. It’s like the Ramones. The Ramones have some great hits, but when you go listen to their albums, the rest of their songs all sound like they use the same chord progressions and come off as bland. I understand that this album may have been influential in some way, but I feel like at a certain point you can call anything and everything influential to someone. The Rolling Stones list feels like a top 500 most influential list rather than a top 500 legit solid album list. It feels more like a history lesson. With that said I do like the song “We Got the Beat”, which I’ve heard many times, and I’d probably follow that up with “Lust to Love”, mostly because of the lead guitar and it’s chorusy guitar pedal effect that kicks in in the second half. I give this album a 2/5. No problem that Garrett or anyone else here loves it. It’s a lot different growing up with it as a kid in the 80’s/90’s compared to a listening to it as music making music snob in his mid thirties in the year 2024. The beauty of music is that if one person doesn’t like it there is still bound to be someone that does. I’m happy that there is so much music in the world that there is bound to be something for someone. I love Bowie but I’ve never heard Station to Station. It’s alright, but I probably won’t listen to it again.

Always here for a Garrett episode. Especially if we're talking 80's music. Great and classic new wave album! Very impactful to the genre as well as to other female rock stars with it being an all female band. Don't know why I never realized that was Belinda Carlisle singing lead in the group. I can totally tell that's her now that I know. Also didn't know she played in The Germs. That's so rad! I'm glad you liked Station to Station! Really interested to see what you think of the full album whenever it comes up. I don't know if you're doing the Sprinsteen episode next week with it being a holiday, but I just want to say it's been an awesome year with Record Club! Really appreciate you doing this show Shawn and I'm very much looking forward to the future and more episodes! Happy Holidays to you and all the fans of Record Club!

Christmas-Cast spoiler from 26:20 to 27:22

Are there any Christmas-Cast spoilers in this or the Elf episode of Movie Club? I usually try my best to save it for Christmas day itself. Last year I saw the champion on IG before I got a chance to watch it so I've gone out of my way to avoid it this time.

I like hearing more of Garrett’s crushes

I like the little history bits and background we get with record club, didn’t ever realize the go gos had so much punk influence but listening through this I totally hear it now and quite enjoyed this album.

I can’t listen to “Skidmarks on my Heart” without hearing “I’m covered in piss!” instead of “I’m driving in risk.” So I’m on board with the double entendre. Beauty and the Beat is excellent front-to-back, no skips!!! I’m always picking up on the basslines in particular. My personal favorite string of songs is the final three tracks. The Go-Go’s other albums have a lot of super songs, too. I definitely pull them out around summertime because that surf-y sound is A+++. An earlier all-girl band I think is worth checking out is Fanny. They don’t sound anything like The Go-Gos buuuuut they’ve got excellent harmonies and a really cool vibe. They’re one of the first all-female bands to sign to release a full album on a major label. Their third album Fanny Hill’s my favorite but Mother’s Pride has the best album cover. Another excellent episode!

Station to Station is the Bowie song I came to appreciate after appreciating all other Bowie songs. As he implies in the song itself: definitely a cocaine song with so much insane energy going on, I think it does get overlooked as the ten minutes makes it very radio unfriendly but damn does it go hard.
