There's a scholastic novelization of the movie. In it, Kevin is hesitant to call the cops because he thinks he'll be arrested for shoplifting.

It’s not the best movie ever, but Home Alone’s got such a tight narrative that I appreciate watching it. Like, seeing the wet bandits plugging the drains in the first act, then Kevin running through the flooded basement in the final act is such a good setup.

I think the idea of the wounds on old man Marley’s hands is to symbolize that the damage he did to his own family was by his own hand (his own design). He’s an old guy that probably hurt himself shoveling snow or doing other excessive handy work that his son could have helped him with had they not had a falling out. The stigmata would be a correlation to Jesus who also had trouble with his father from time to time, but Jesus also believed in forgiveness. Marley was in the church praying for an answer to his problems when a young boy came and unexpectedly exhibited wisdom to him and told him to talk to his son and make peace with him. That plus the wounds on his hand were taken by him as signs from God and lead to him making up with his son and finally fixing their relationship. Also I think Kevin does what he does in the end because he doesn't want his parents to get in trouble for accidentally leaving him at home. Even though he felt slighted by them the whole time. And with the deleted scene Rocco mentions and earlier in the movie Harry comes to Kevin's home posing as a police officer. That plus the shopping incident with the security guard creates a paranoia around Kevin reaching out to adults and authorities for help. He doesn't know which adults to trust, which is something that carries out through the entire movie in multiple ways. I love this movie. I wasn't alive when it first came out and didn't see it till I was a kid in the late 90’s/early 00’s. There's a lot of fun to it, but there's so much more beauty and depth I could easily pull from it. This is easily my favorite Christmas movie and this was a great episode of Movie Club. Much love and happy holidays to you guys and all the Movie Club fans! EDIT: Rewatched it today and also realized that Kevin called the police to the other house that the burglars had already visited and lead them back there in hopes the cops would catch the burgalars at the scene of the crime and tie them in to all the other houses they robbed. Also Marley's hand is fully healed when he finally reunites with his family in the end.

Just rewatched home alone 1 and 2 with whole family and my niece who is 10 years old, and she loved it as much as I did when I was her age, which was 18 years ago

Grown ass adult who is going to watch this for the first time tonight or die trying reporting in; we always watched A Christmas Story or the old animated stop-motion movies, Home Alone was just before my time and after parents.

On the point of Old Man Marley's hand, i figured it was nothing more than he got hurt doing chores around the house. He's a lonely old man just keeping himself busy, and he happened to fuck up with some tools, thats how he got the bandage
