Mega64 Record Club Ep. 60 - The Band - The Band(#57)

Hey, remember how we just covered The Band when we talked about Bob Dylan? Shawn didn't... but he remembers now. Let's find out what about what these guys did after they parted ways with Dylan and how they managed to seemly invent a new genre of music with this. Let's find out if we like it.

On the topic of funny band names, there's an Australian band called "Private Function", always funny to see that on a bar's front door/the band room, confuses the public satisfyingly

Damn, Shawn is popular!

I kinda felt the same way as you when I first listened to this album but it definitely grows on you the more you listen to it. As of now it's actually in my top ten favorite albums. Also fuck yeah Jawbone is also my favorite song! It has such a bizarre chorus - it's in 6/4 time signature which is like never used in popular music - but it works so well and the vocals are just so emotive and awesome.

I spent two hours modding Fallout: New Vegas and had this record on. I liked it! The mods worked! edit: the iPhone dings are so funny. edit 2: oh my god it gets so much worse.

Your phone was trying to assassinate this episode lmao. I really like this album. Grows on me every time I listen to it. It’s such great driving through the country music. The song writing is so good and the vocals are so textured and cool. 4/5 for me

Shawn, is the song you’re thinking of “Hoedown” from the Beef: it’s what’s for Dinner commercials? And I think “Everyday People” was in Toyota (or some other car) ads. Spike Jones (the Bandleader) is probs best known today for “All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth” but the City Slickers recording of “Cocktails for Two” is essential listening. A lot hasn’t aged super well, though. This album was a fine listen. I don’t think I’ll be seeking out more of The Band anytime soon, aside from what else may pop up in Record Club but I liked this enough. The funkier songs were my faves.

It’s not a Record Club without a little chime 🤭

🔔*𝘋𝘐𝘕𝘎*🔔 Wanted to say 1st of all that you boys have been fucking killing it all year-- K so, there wasn't anything I disliked on this album, but not anything I'd ever put on again either. 💿💿.𝟐𝟓/𝟓 The next 60 albums are all gonna be bangers; I can feel it.
