Definitely up there as one of my favourite space operas. As is often the case with Besson's work the zany style is the substance. Rocco should check out Besson's Subway, group of misfits who live in the Paris metro - the least ookie of his filmography.

kinda awesome to have another movie club link up with sardonicast. Rocco and YMS have the same opinion of this one. and yeah, the director is a known pedo.

The problem with "CG" is that it tends to end up being used as a last resort, with small budget and even less time to complete it for the clients and that is when you get bad CG. A lot of VFX artists really get thrown under the bus for poor planning decisions by productions. Rocco is kind of right with execs etc constantly changing their minds and the pressure goes to the post houses/vfx studios as a lot of the time the deadline wont change, but the clients vision will. I guarantee you that Beetlejuice and other films claiming no VFX will be full of cg/vfx. Sadly it gets used as a marketing ploy to say "no CG!"

Rocco is right on the money with the ookiness attached to Besson's films. for those who don't know (and I know a director's personal life shouldn't always influence how you view their films) Luc impregnated a 15 year old in his 30s and then married her, which is what inspired The Professional. He basically got away with it because of French laws. He then divorced her and married the (also young) Jovovich after working with her in this movie. Also has been 'me too'd with women who worked with him. just a big old creep! I can't really get behind his work with all that hanging over it which is a shame because his style is out there and different enough to be interesting.
