Just a quick content warning: This episode has discussion of sexual assault. If you'd like to skip this episode the next album is #127, see you next week
In this episode we talk the debut solo album of Tori Amos, this is a super bold album that paved the way for a ton of artists to come...but what do we think of it?
Yeah this record was kind of brutal. Pretty boring and then really sad and hard to listen to. Itโs obviously really good that this exists but itโs not for me. Makes sense that itโs on this list though and glad it connected to and helped people but yeah I donโt want to give it a rating lol.

Aligned with your vibes on this one, Shawn. It has a dated sound/production to me that isn't worth revisiting. But I appreciate you pointing out the more meaningful aspects of the album.
That said, I'm sure I'd go nuts for someone contemporary like Phoebe Bridgers releasing their version of this.

Mick Foley's original gimmick as Mankind in WWF was a tortured pianist.

Tori Amos was a name I always heard and the only thing I really knew was the music video with Adrian Brody where one of them is an arm with a face and the other is a leg with a face - the visual stuck with me much longer than the music did.
Anyway, some serious songs and I can appreciate her honesty and rawness but Iโm not huge on the sound. Iโm more interested in how she describes how she sees music, Iโll probably check more into interviews and things because synesthesia and synesthesia-adjacent stuff is fascinating.
I stand-by how great Groove Is In The Heart is. Excellent use of a Herbie Hancock sample, fun Green Acres sample (of all things!) and Lady Miss Kier is deee-licious and deee-liteful!!!

This was a one and done album for me, just not my thing. Bound to happen. Gotta say, Surfer Rosa and Parallel Lines were a couple albums I'll come back to over and over again.
