I think of the beginning more as him kind of negging her and being intimidated by her fame/writing talent, wanting to keep her small and keep her down. That's why she says he probably regrets kissing her and entering her world. This also goes back to Liability, how she feels like when she acts as her true self people view it as too much to handle and ultimately leave. Finding a secret power definitely represents finding the strength to be alone.
