Gossip Girl & the possessive investment in beige

Sorry this one's a bit late! This wisdom tooth recovery was a JOURNEY plus I'm working with a new editor and we're sorting out our schedule!

What are y'alls thoughts on the new GG?

Mm, your main points here are SO true. We as humans just want to feel like we count. We want to feel included and this comes in part by being able to see ourselves in our media/society in general. And I think you're totally right - people who complain about those who ask for this are likely doing so because they ARE represented. They don't feel that lack, and therefore don't have compassion for people who aren't living with those same perks. Also to the polarity doctrine you were pointing to - this is something I've been observing for a while in the spirituality/new age communities as well. This teaching that there are these 'poles' of masculine and feminine, and from that people are coming up with ideas of how 'women' should be and how 'men' should be. Turning it into this role playing/superstition that promises you will find your 'twin flame' and have a balanced relationship/sex life/love life in general if you play into the right 'pole.' That it's this opposition of forces that 'attracts' to us our dream partners. And really, it just mostly devolves into people pretending to be certain ways for periods of time, realizing they can't keep up the act because, hello this is just an overly simplified caricature of what it means to be human, and giving what is essentially terrible relationship advice centered around manipulating your partner to be a certain way by changing your own behavior. I'm neuro-diverse and just...not feminine. I've noticed a lot in watching media over my lifetime that the women who act like me are never the desirable main character, but always the quirky friend/side kick/awkward one. This polarity thing and what is defined as TRUE femininity/acceptability, it's so deeply incredibly narrow. It erases, exactly as you said, so many people who are just not that. Which I feel like is...most people? Like who do we know that's actually authentically THAT feminine or THAT masculine? Loved this exploration. Loved your thoughts. There's so much room for improvement. I hope we keep moving in that direction. Everyone deserves to be seen and to be able to see themselves. That's the bottom line.

I've never watched Gossip Girl but I love watching your videos and hear your take on things. And I agree when I watch TV I just assumed they want to slowly erase dark skinned (especially feminine) women... smh
