I know this was meant to be light hearted - but the struggle you speak to here is really important. The whole concept of beauty ideals and how they work to keep us in a state of manufactured insecurity, how they allow for societies to marginalize and 'other' groups based on their appearance/ability, the way they encourage us to be ever faithful consumers/producers trying to keep up with trends that change all the time on purpose, the way they distract us from actually working towards health/feeling good in whatever ways we can given our circumstances, they way they force us to navel gaze so we're too distracted to do anything about what's going on around us - it's a big deal. Our longing to be accepted drives so much of our narratives about our bodies, and our bodies are made out to be a source of value and worth - and that's the root issue here. Life should be valued. Period. How it looks shouldn't matter in terms of it's worthiness to have access and safety. We can celebrate and acknowledge difference, even celebrate what we find attractive, but it shouldn't have anything to do with our ability to be safe.
