2024-02-27 06:13:34 +0000 UTCI'm an older millennial and while I didn't have social media until my college times, but I was already poisoned by the internet by pre-social media channels, from ICQ to IRC to image boards to forums and stuff. When you do don't have social media there are still other ways that kids will find a way to connect with each other, especially today when there are SO many social media platforms out there beyond the popular ones. Looking back I was absolutely groomed by predatory men on these platforms pre-social media. Rather than banning kids from getting on the popular social media platforms today I think it's probably better to regulate these large platforms and demand them to put in safeguards in place than trying to regulate hundreds of micro-platforms out there, as that will be close to impossible without some draconian legislation involved.
