For the one person in the back (I love you)

I long to be back under my friendly skies
Vision unimpeded by obstruction
For miles, and miles
Skies as far as the world
It dips at the end of the earth
That I feel beneath my bare feet
Soft prairie grasses swaying
Fields of soy rolling like the ocean
As a backdrop to the people I love so dearly
Who speak to me of faraway places
I can see at the end of my skies
And show me their worlds
We share underneath our endless blanket of stars
The world is a melting pot- no
The world is a jigsaw puzzle- no
The world is a beautiful glass mosaic- no
The world is a tapestry- perhaps
Our threads woven together,
Telling our stories
Sharing our cultures
And experiences
Our love, our passion
In a blanket that could cover us all
And we are too small to see
If one thread unravels
Or is pulled from our story
We are damaged.
Our tapestry is full of cut threads
Hastily picked
And lovingly re-tied
Woven back in with care
But in ways that are always different from before
