Jiraiya grimaced. “Charming.”

“I live to please.” Aiko perked up as Raidou returned, carrying drinks. “Caffeine?”

He gave her a wary look. “Your security said not to give you any at this hour. It's juice.” His face seemed to twitch. “Very healthy juice. We put spinach in this.” The glass he put in front of her with a clink held something thick and green.

She blinked.

That… seemed like an initiative that came from Nishikawa. He did not want her to die of malnutrition. It was rather sweet of him, or maybe just self-preserving.

“Should I fire my assistant?” she asked Jiraiya, genuinely curious about his take. She took a sniff of the juice. It smelled fruity, but that could be deceptive.

Jiraiya gave a shrug. He gave the glass Raidou gave him an incredibly suspicious look. “I'm not putting that in my body. It might have nutrients. I'm not sure my system could handle the shock.”

“That was time-consuming and technically challenging,” Raidou half-sang. He pointedly swished his own beverage around. “And made of so many delicious things.” But, despite his implication, she noticed that he was not drinking any. “The scary Kiri ANBU and I worked very hard on it. We made it with love.”

She gamely took a sip. Then she closed her eyes, carefully controlling her expression. “Your love tastes real bad,” she told Raidou. “Your boyfriend is a saint.” But she drank more anyway. It was so unpleasant that it had to be incredibly healthy.
