Edit: Pia was so excited that they forgot that big ass insects came up *before* dinosaurs and it was totally Pia forgetting that and not me so I will let them know and edit that first dialogue bubble just a tad!
(and yes, Pia's exaggerating slightly with the size of the ol' "dragonfly" but that's actually Pia's excitement showing ;))

no, not together. these arthropods all lived in the paleozoic, and were gone by the time dinosaurs appeared in the early mesosoic (around 250 million years ago)

2022-10-19 08:22:06 +0000 UTCI don't think insects were that large anymore by the time the dinosaurs came around. AFAIK the giant insect sizes were possible because the atmosphere used to have 160% of today's oxygen.

2022-10-18 22:21:34 +0000 UTCOmg 2.5m long centipede :o! But: Before, but also together with the dinosaurs? Size wise: maybe she's not indicating a size, more making a gesture? For the sake of the story and enthusiasm I feel like it's not that bad in any case. 80 cm is still huge!

2022-10-18 22:05:25 +0000 UTCsoooo, meganeura (#largest insect ever) reached maybe 80cm width. big for a bug; not as big as Pia is suggesting. there have been truly gigantic arthropods though, like that 2,5m long centipede arthropleura, or some of the eurypterids (aka sea scorpions) also, all of these lived quite a bit before the dinosaurs (maybe you know all of this and you're painting Pia being deliberately inaccurate, because that's realistic and maybe a Character Trait? but now we all know that)
