Yes! They may even be preferred as they also eat those shoots that would to grow into shrubs. Sheep stick with the softer stuff. Many people use both. Either way, the shrubs and hedges that are supposed to be there need to be protected by a fence or both goats and sheep will eat all the foliage they can reach. ๐ŸŒฟ

Zoltanina

Oh man yeah, hadn't thought of that! Goats would work too, you think? Or would they eat precious plants and flowers?

Oooor she coupd get some neighbour's sheep in for a couple of days ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿค

Zoltanina

haha, I totally understand and I appreciate the comment! The scythe could be an option for Pia, there's also the manual lawn mower (push mower) that my own parents have started to use and apparently works well for them (and I think is way less destructive?) so we'll see how Pia manages it all in the long run :)

Please give us Pia trying to figure out a scythe at some point. I'm sure it will be adorable ๐Ÿ˜ Context: Even if you retire the dreaded lawn mower you have to mow eventually. Otherwise the old dead grass will form a thick layer of dead material under next year's new grass and that will mess up the micro climate and block the access to the topsoil for little animals. After two or three years, shrubs and little trees will start to grow and eventually choke the grasses, herbs and little critters. Depending on how nutrient rich the soil is, you're mowing once or twice a year. There are even meadow herbs that only flower after having been cut in early summer because they've been living alongside us for so long. So no mowing at all leads to no grass and flowers and insects in the long run, too. More context: Clover, I'm not trying to educate you how to do your comic, I see you've done your research. But many people never get to think about what exactly a lawn or a meadow is and where it comes from and I enjoy talking about little critters and plant communities way too much to let it go ๐Ÿชฒ

The great power of panel space to create a feeling of relaxation and freedom. Bill Watterson understood it, and I see you do, too.

When Pia has a flash of inspiration, instead of a lightbulb, it shows up as a dragonfly above her head

Tall grass is a haven for many such creepy crawlies.
