Thanks for the heads up!

lovely page and would make an awesome print! (...which i might be too broke to buy but eh) typo: dragonflies fly *at* up to 36km/h not 'for' (which, woah!)

I love the imagos though I know hardly anything about them. Thank you! The larvae are giving me the creeps though. 😅

I remember reading about the mating practices of dragonflies. I seem to remember it was pretty vicious.

Chris Miller

Wait, they actually form a heart shape when they're having sex?! That's such an amazing and funny co-incidence! XD

lightweight nets, waders and patience. No great trick, except the safe way to hold them (both wings gently - don't hold their legs or just one wing). And don't catch ones that are newly shed - they are fragile!

pato

Oh! How did that go? How did you catch them? They must not be the easiest to capture!

clover

Did some summer work catching and cataloging these friends - without harming them of course.

pato

Wow I never knew the difference! Now I'll know to look at their wings when they land (or their eyes if I can get close) to tell

Megan Lane MacDonald

I remember learning about dragonflies and damselflies several years ago. The fact that stuck with me the most was that the naiads are absolutely vicious predators for the years they remain underwater.
