Exclusives -> early access?

Hey folks!

I have a thought and I would love having your opinion on the matter! This Patreon experience can't exist without you, so your response to these questions are always important.

There's been quite a few exclusive posts for paying members here. And I want to keep that extra bonus for people who are kind enough to give me a lil' something each month!

But I would also like to share some of them to the public so it feeds my other social platforms, SO! My grand idea:

Keep it all exclusive for ONE YEAR, for paid members only. Then release it to the world! (So technically it's early access instead of exclusive forever.)

To me, it's the best of both worlds: satisfying fans that wanna see more stuff from me, with more spontaneous art & commentary, and at the same time being able to share it later down the line on my public platforms.

(Short fancomics, like the Harlivy "No Regrets", remain free for Patrons and sold on itchio and gumroad.)

Would this be okay with you? Would some of you rather want to keep the exclusive totally exclusive? It's okay if you do! Let me know! And if you have any questions ask away!

And no, this post has nothing to do with the adorable mushroom I took a picture of last week. But look its so cuuuuute ovo

*EDIT* Oh and of course this doesn't concern any of my webcomics. Little Tiny Things keeps updating as per usual!
It concerns extra stuff only.**

Exclusives -> early access?

Comments

I’d say share but make sure to let people know it’s tiered release, I’d say setting expectations for how long helps promote the patreon without feeling like punishment for not paying. Also exclusives don’t draw attention for new patrons

Daybreak

Pretty much, like most everyone else I just wanna support your art. I was SO BROKE for so long and loved being able to see my favorite artists' work when they could afford to put it out there...I'm just happy to be able to support your work even a little, so I can see it! and I hope that you're getting to thrive as an artist; exclusives aren't that important to me!

Jennifer Dawson

No need for exclusives, I'm just here because I appreciate your work.

skollipsism

I'm not here for exclusives or early access. More free for all is better

Marc Juul

Share it! And as others have said, no need to wait for a full year.

Wavey Davey

Yurp, I'm not contributing because I think I get content no one else gets. For my intention, I'm just trying to support you living life as an artist and storyteller... two exceedingly worthy contributions which can be hard to really honor and compensate in our cutthroat capitalistic environment.

Ethan

Do it! And no need to wait for a year, it seems way too long for me!

Firea

Post away!

Fxd Gear Queer

“We support you, we don’t own you” might be the best line of what being a “true fan” is all about. That was perfect!

EvilChicken25

I have zero issues with things going to early access. I agree with many others that something shorter like 1-3 months might even be better.

Nick Stevens

Do it.

Robert Pommrich

I support you on Patreon for the public comics you give away for free. And while I like the extras, I don't _need_ extras, so it doesn't matter to me what you do with them. Post them to the public a week later would be fine with me.

Carl Cravens

We are on this patreon to support you making art, not to limit how you use it! Early access is fine by me, and it doen't have to regulated to any fixed period of time either. Sometimes, you might post something here and never see a reason to post it anywhere else, so it happens to be exclusive. Some other time, you might have posted some art here and just a few days later realize it would be perfect to post somewhere else? Then do that! We support you, we don't own you.

Rasmus Kaj

I'm good with going public after a year.

Opus the Poet

Sounds good to me!

prettydragoon

Yasss do it!!

Juniper Villines

I have no issues with this idea. In fact, I agree with what some others are saying in that a year sounds like far too long. A month or even just a few weeks would be fine by me

Kris Grimsley

Do the thing! I enjoy exploring the freebies on Patreon. It helps me find folks to support that I'm not already. :-)

Bonnie Smith

This sounds like a great plan, but why a year? 6 months? 3 months would be fine. Look, I contribute because I love your art and characters and because I think it's important to support artists, not to feel special. I *want* the world to see your work. Edit: I need to learn to type better on my phone.

Chris Miller

Totally okay! I'm also totally okay with less than a year of early access, as someone else suggested. I'm not fussed about exclusivity :) (and I LOVE that mushroom!!)

MyBatteryIsLow

Yes, share it all. My contribution is pretty minimal right now because of... you know, life. You've helped me in so many ways, I hope I can give it back some day.

FormerlyKnownAs

Works for me! 🙂

Jonathan Kaplan

I'm all for switching to early access. Share your art with the world!

Lumi

A year, or half, or three months, or one... nothing has to be exclusive, I think.

Tenebrous Trahern

I am 100% on board with this plan! I support your work and have no problem changing this to early access!! Thank you so much for being so considerate, but I’m certain you will get complete support for this plan 🥰

EvilChicken25

As someone who couldn't always afford to be a patron I really love and appreciate this idea!!! I think you've worked a great system that's still rewarding to those that do pay but not entirely exclusionary to those who can't 💖

Allienna Nezelek

Many artists I support on here do this and it works quite well. Go for it.

Orion Rhine

Go for it ! :3

DuckyThugy

I'm for it!

Arianod

I'm okay with it!

Margreet de Heer

Go for it

Bastian Nichelmann

Share your art with the world!!! ++ to more folks having free access to excellent queer content

Charmander

I agree. 1 month is fine. This also has the benefit of the posting still being relevant to any situation/cause that you might be referring to.

D W

I know I would be cool with even just 1 month lock

Steven Ness

Makes sense to me

Spencer Davis

Absolutely, makes sense to share your content to gain more following, that's a win for us patrons as well since it theoretically advertises to more future patrons and gives you more creative freedom, hopefully. Go for it!

Jaeger Spratt

That sounds totally reasonable to me. Go for it! And it is an adorable mushroom.

George

Do what you like (: I'm a patron because I want to support your webcomics and would be even if there wasn't any early access or bonus stuff.

Zoltanina

This seems like a good idea. We'd still be getting what we pay for first, and then even more people get to see it later.

Yajoovya

Honestly, anything you can do to gain greater visibility and/or earn more for your work is good by me. Your proposal here makes sense to me - even limiting the time-lock to less than 1 year would also work. Whatever works for you!

Jennifer Taylor

I'm just here to support you as an artist and have an easy way of accessing all your work. I'm happy for you to share any/all of it wherever and whenever you would wish.

Michael Ratcliffe

As both a creator and consumer, I MUCH prefer time-locked content over totally exclusive content, so go for it! I know I'll be supporting you here regardless~ Like you said, best of both worlds ❤️

AstraLynx

The additional content certainly does not need to remain exclusive to the Patreon. Any period you choose will be fine by me, I'm here to enjoy the content, but it would be selfish to keep it all for Patrons only for eternity.

Ramona Wanders

I agree with the others and say I support you as an artist and am just as happy to see your work available for the greater audience and not locked up.

Pete White

Yes! Great idea!

Amalija Vitezovic

Yeah this sounds ideal!

wyatt

Sounds good to me!

Abigail Allen

Totally fine! I'm not really in it for the exclusives, I just like supporting you

Dave Nope

Yes! Exclusives are not forever, and there is a couple good episodes in comiclab podcast that talk about this , because in the end we all fans benefit from having more of your wonderful work out there.

MakeKong

I say go for it. I'm paying to support you as an artist, not to hoard the experience of your art. And if you get more visibility, that means you get more support, and we're all better off for it. <3

Jay VG

Personally I’m not worried about having exclusive content. I support you because I like your creativeness and I want to help you to continue to keep making it. If you make it available to more people I’m not going to feel bad.

Faith and Valor

I think this is a great idea, the more people who see your art (and silly doodles) the better!
