Upload Notes: Lusamine's Pet Project
Added 2020-05-30 06:42:31 +0000 UTCLusamine is one of my all-time favorite characters, so it was an honor to be given the chance to write with her, and to write something so freely~ I have a ton of poke-wives, but Lusamine stands out especially as having that "bad mom" archetype that I'm so drawn to. I probably would've wrote a size story about her at some point, but a commissioner decided that time should be now~ I'll very well likely revisit her again at some point, haha, she's a very good character and her personality is ripe for size content.
I try to make giant destruction-focused stories a bit varied where I can. Dialogue is an important factor, it can really set a different tone hearing the different thoughts of a giant. But in this setting, Lusamine is divorced from her usual universe, so I couldn't just write her out as she would be "normally." I tried to explore the more relatable, human elements to her. Something I do for most characters I write, in an effort to get in their head, is to walk through a day of their life and see what they see. Lusamine being such a busy person was the biggest inspiration for how to direct her feelings, so that her being giant was this relaxing getaway she took advantage of. (The original title was going to just be "Getaway" but I wanted to use that title for a different story~ (It was also almost just "Pet Project" but I decided Lusamine was a good name to drop))
To help vary up the setting too I also tried to pick out some different locales... sort of! I chastise myself a lot for this, how most of my cities and landscapes in giant stories tend to be bland and samey, as if it takes place in a computer-generated grid of gray blocks. I try to add color and depth where I can, like having Lusamine surrounded by a freeway system or sitting among night clubs and bars. In hindsight, I would have liked to describe these places more, but for a one-off type story with a one-off setting, I wasn't too invested... and neither should you! Quit caring! It's destroyed now, doesn't matter!
Another little change, like utterly meaningless, was the waitress at the end. She was originally just an office worker, but when I compared her to the bouncer, I dunno, something clicked and told me, "This should be another hapless employee for some business." I think that helps solidify the location with its own particular flavor, and it also makes for a sympathetic POV that's a little more earnest and real. Like, it's not unusual for an office worker type to end up in a bar obviously, but a waitress that happened to have that shift on that day, you know, it's that little extra that makes it so juicy~ As usual, I like to end most of my size stuff with enough for the reader to ask, "ooh, what happens next?" The story continues in your head~ I've always liked stories that end like this, like a fill-in-the-blank for the reader to decide.
Thanks again to the supporter that commissioned this project! It was a blast and I'm happy they enjoyed it, because it really was fun to write~ Patrons get early access, Pet Project will go public in a few days! Hope you all also enjoy this little romp and look forward to more~ Consider leaving a comment to let me know what you thought!
