Upload Notes: Massive Mermaid Part One

I'll admit, I didn't think I was going to keep that name for the story. It's pretty plain, isn't it? And honestly... maybe I will change it later, but for now, it's passable. It's true to what it's about; one really big mermaid. What more could you ask for. You can't say you didn't get what you didn't expect. I considered naming it "Caught," or "Caught by a Mermaid," or something to play on the idea of "catching a fish" lol. Yeah I didn't feel solid about any of those concepts, so, Massive Mermaid it is.

It's a slow start, but I'm feeling confident of where the story is going to go from here~ A lot of this story is going to be about the exact consequences that happen to the ship as Clo plays with it, which allows for some creative perspectives and interactions. Something I try to strive for in my destructive stories is the details in how survivors have to deal with crumbling buildings and the like. It's usually just glossed over, especially in art, what all happens to the tiny people inside these things. It's a lot to think about, and it's so chaotic too, but I think the attention to those details is worth it. Luckily, ship wrecks in particular have a LOT to reference from thanks to movies -- Titanic was definitely flashing in my mind as I tried to process all the ways things would flood or how the ship would break apart. I had also, fortunately, watched a video detailing the Battle of May Island, which is all about submarines and the like crashing into one another, so I had a lot on my mind at the time of writing this.

As for the characters... I gotta admit, they don't pop the same way other characters have in my writing lol. I don't think that's a huge issue; not every story has to be about Sierras and Duvals, or Felicitys and Darias. The characters serve their strategic purposes. Eliza is meant to be a bit of a self-insert for the reader, someone plain that anyone can attach to. I only drew out her details enough to make her a convincing part of the setting. Clo is, well, hah, a giantess character. She's the star of the show~ Unfortunately, there's not been a lot of space in this part one to flesh her out too much, but I'm hoping her interactions speak louder for her than her brief bits of dialogue haha. Due to the perspective of the story being so low and focused on the shipwreck, it's difficult to give her the "spotlight" -- even though she's literally the whole plot.

This was a bit shorter than my usual stuff, but I think that pace will work better all around. It makes for more chewable segments that won't overwhelm readers, ideally... and also, it helps me spread the upload times around a bit, so I'm not so clogged up writing each part for months and months at a time~ I'm expecting this to all be wrapped up in three parts, but maybe a stroke of inspiration will lengthen it out a bit more.

In hindsight... I sort of think I could have twisted this around a bit to be another story fitted into my lil' "kaiju-verse" idea. Buuuuut it's also nice to break away from the kaiju thing and just do some "normal" giant stuff. It was very tempting though! And Clo could easily, easily be retooled for that universe lol. The "kaiju-verse" is a bit more like a "cursey-verse" than I intended...

I think that about covers it. Thanks for the support, all of ya'~
