Letting Looney walk would make no sense, they have West, who may retire, and Pachulia, who is on the downward slide, and McGee, who is a mixed bag at best, clogging the roster, and these were always temporary solutions, brought in because they stripped the roster to sign Durant. It's a quick change, but going with Looney, Bell and Jones as the center core next year makes a lot of sense, and it frees them up to find some other veteran or disposed pieces to fill some other gaps, principally some bench scoring and speed. Drafting a guy in the first round and developing him for three years and then letting him walk makes no sense at all; in the longer run they're better off trying to deal Iggy or S-Dot and dumping some salary, and certainly Swaggy is a one and done. Kerr said going into the year this is probably the deepest team we'd ever see, and dumping kids is probably not what he was thinking.
