Excellent breakdown, Alch. This series has me really worried, without the Chef. Going on record now: we lose the series if Steph doesn't show up. We lose more games than we win until he shows up.

I actually like how we match up against the Pels and I think GSW knows it as well. The Pels have never seen anything close to this level of defense. I think we will see A LOT of Draymond at the 5. Looney as well. I think we will see less minutes for Javale, bc I don't think he is a good matchup against AD. I actually think we will see Bell get his first playoff minutes. The Pels were able to take advantage of Portland's undersized backcourt and lack of wing/big scorers. But the Pels backcourt is now gonna be undersized when going against Klay/Iguodala/Livingston. Holiday is a great on-ball defender but chasing Klay around all game around screen after screen is a different story. It's gone under the radar but Klay has gotten much better this year at being able to create separation between him and his defender off the ball. This is allowing to him to score more efficiently and consistently. AD is great but we have a whole slew of bigs that we can use to defend him. The key will be continuing to shut off the 3pt line, especially Mirotic. Mirotic is also a guy we can target to abuse when we have the ball. The Pels can't play the level of defense the Spurs can so it should be easier for us to score consistently. And, once again, they haven't seen anything close to the suffocating defense GSW is playing right now.

Seven games? Love the analysis, but I feel like you're overrating the Pelicans. The Pelicans defense against Portland was straightforward -- hamper their guards. The Blazers didn't adjust. Blazers don't have play makers outside their guards. Their front court can't be relied upon to make shots. Blazers don't have much depth, nor do they have any quality defenders. If Dame doesn't drill you for 40 and C.J. isn't hitting his fade aways and layups, they ain't winning. Warriors can score at every level. KD can be harassed, sure, but he's about as automatic as it gets in the NBA. And then there's Klay, the human toaster. If Klay is making his shots, it's game over. Spurs couldn't stop Klay. I doubt the Pelicans can.

Thanks! No ads on Patreon vids. I would like to start a group where we can play against each other here soon. They need to integrate it into the app. As for the match up, this one is much more dynamic than round 1. We should see line up changes from both sides as the series plays out.

hey--i thought your placement of the ad was actually pretty smooth. and plus you worked it in to have a competition with your subscribers. well done--a sponsor should be impressed! i've seen some really corny/disruptive ads on basketball breakdown which makes me just fast forward angrily past them. all the same, hope not to see those ads on the paid subscriber videos! as for the video--your last preview was prophetic so major credibility on this one. it's meaty and fascinating to appreciate the coach's dilemmas of matching up people and perhaps preparing the players to change/adjust certain tendencies to surprise alvin gentry and his players. it'd be cool to know how each coach contributes to the planning--or that process. thanks for the great video. seems like we might have to depend heavily on Bell--maybe need two of him to do all the work against the pels.

I hope your right! Stotts was embarrassing, Why not play thru Nurk if he is out there? They may not be as disciplined but the Pels have a lot of good individual defenders. IDK... I realize I usually take the pessimistic approach, but I think this is going to be a long series.

I don’t disagree with you too often Alc but I think you’re giving the Pels and Blazers more credit than they are due just yet. Stotts didn’t even attempt to change their gameplan in that series. Just flat out terrible coaching. I think Steph won’t come back until we lose a game but this series is over in 5. The Pelicans won’t be nearly as disciplined on defense as the Spurs were. Our offense, even without Steph will open up more against them. There is no matchup for KD at all, and I fully expect him to bully the little guards. If Steph returns expect plenty of Steph/Dray pick and rolls to pull AD out of the paint and from that point it’s just death by 1000 cuts.

I don't think the Blazers are choke artists, but I also don't think the Pels are forreal yet. I think the Blazers are a team that relies on 1 guard to generate all of the offense and the team as a whole are average (at best) on defense. You stop Dame, you stop the Blazers.
