Patch ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 I was thinking about gloomies and if you will be making next batch can you so something about taking medication, staying hydrated, caffeine and sleeping troubles? I think there are no gloomies for those themes (unless I miss them) and I needed them this week for sure 😅 When it comes to question - can you share your fav books? Or any book recommendations? Would love to read some vampires books but don’t know what’s good!

Where do you stay when you visit your brother? Is it difficult staying somewhere different or are you used to it now? (Or is it just day visits :o)

I hope it’s ok for me to give an answer to this too? I have a couple of neurological chronic pain illnesses so I’m unfortunately well acquainted with fatigue. My ND brain is also ADHD wired - undiagnosed, which I suspect was probably one of the main underlying causes of my health woes. Ridiculously, it’s only been over the last year or so that I’ve realised the true energy load that mainly cognitive activities (or stress) cost. Cognitive functions like social situations, long in depth conversations, research, writing etc never felt to me like something I needed to take a rest from - because you generally do them sitting down. Honestly I’m kind of embarrassed about how…oblivious I’ve been to some of this stuff given that I used to be a Special Education primary teacher. Sigh. I’ve masked so well that my own traits have been invisible to me. But as usual, I digress🙄 Talking about it with my therapist, she’s helped me to understand that if we think about the brain as being like the hard drive of a computer, it’s easier to grasp that, as it’s the control centre of everything, it’s the main drain on energy. Therefore one of the keys to rest and recuperation, and in some respects dealing with stress, is to focus on which side of the brain has been demanding all the processing power - and then swap to doing something that uses the other side. The brain is basically designed to do one thing at a time - cognitively speaking. It’s not supposed to be able to multitask when it comes to processing sensory input. For example if you have toothache and then stub your toe you’ll only be aware of the pain in your toe for a bit. It’s not that it’s magically cured your toothache 🙃 it’s just that our meat computers don’t have enough RAM to process both pains at the same time. (There’s some fascinating research about this. Which I guess is why I’ve gone off on another tangent.) The most effective cognitive rest activities are things that can demand the full attention of the other side of your brain. And anything that will calm down the ‘fight or flight’ stressed out bit that’s flooding your system with cortisol etc. It’s partly why research has demonstrated how helpful being fully present/mindfulness is for us. The most effective activities for this are things like; • Creating art - repetitive/familiar things in particular. Creating patterns, colouring in, neurographic art, zentangling…NOT something like observational drawing. (Example: I can’t do that anymore because it demands so much energy/focus from my pain malfunctioning brain that it causes a migraine.) • Playing a game - something you’re familiar with rather than learning something new. And something you enjoy and find easy. It’ll be different for everyone. I love match 3 games. But my BFF finds them too stressful. She does word puzzles. (Do them at the easy level, not anything too challenging.) • Listening to music - not in the background to doing something else, but singing along and dancing like nobody’s watching 😊 • Reading/watching fiction - and not anything too complex (or tense! But that could just be me. I’ve not researched it yet.) It’s partly why re-reading a favourite book, or re-watching a favourite episode of a TV show is so relaxing/comforting. I like finding a new series of books/tv shows because it doesn’t involve having to remember a bunch of new characters/settings etc. Tsk…I’ve now run out of steam. Sorry. But hopefully I’ve given you some helpful ideas?🤞

my favorite one is nova. my daughter’s name is nova. i really love these spooky cards. idk if you have done this yet but have you considered doing chatty timelapses of your art process? i am interested in seeing how it all comes together.

Omg I adore Patch! I already posted my comment on youtube, but I might as well ask you here too. Because you prioritize resting a lot I think you are the right person to ask this very specific question that’s been haunting me lately: do you recognize different kinds of tiredness? And do you find some ways of resting more suiting for some tirednesses than others? Like… if I’m tired because I’ve been studying too much, I know that sleeping will probably do, but sometimes if I’m very tired after being social for too long or something else, sleeping doesn’t really solve it. And I’m just really curious if you experience this too and if you know how to rest apart from sleeping or lying down. I actually hope that you’re not needing to do extra rest like that, and I hope you have a good weekend.

Hey Megan, love the new gloomies 👌🏼 Do you brainstorm or pre-plan when designing new gloomies/sticker sheets/zines or go straight into the digital sketching? Interested as to whether, as a planner gal, you plan your plans or freestyle? Hope you’re doing ok x

Kmi✨
