patreon

wednesday ☕️

hi everyone, i hope you're all doing ok!

stopping by today with some photos of my ongoing filofax "experiment" 🫢 im probably more attached than i should be at this point, but being able to create my own pages, print them, move them around and re-catagorise them at will has felt very game-changing.

this is the little front page that i made, with reminders to take my inhalers, meds, wear my glasses, write a patreon post (👀), etc. all the important things that i frequently forget to do, basically. i also moved the little charm from my hobonichi cover over- i've paper-clipped it to a bookmark so it hangs down like a little charm.

same key as always, on the back of that reminders page 🫡

weekly pages: layout obviously picked from the hobonichi cousin as i found it working so well for me. added a running task list to the middle as a little flap that can be moved across! on the back is the option for some notes in case i run out of room. still decorating very minimally with some stickers, but printing/designing them myself has allowed me to add a little extra colour, and the ability to track the weather and my mood, which is really nice. they don't feel so plain, without having added extra decorating work.

here you can see the charm a little better- the filofax ruler came with the cover but im using it as a bookmark rather than an actual ruler. as an actual ruler, i've hole-punched my trusty hobonichi pencil board because i'm a bit attached to it lol 🥲 i've changed books a few times this year already, but the pencil board has moved with me each time. these bits are currently separating my weekly planning pages from my brain drain/commonplace pages.

underneath the rulers, i have this little book tracker, though this side is film and tv. i drew it to look somewhere between a receipt and a library card, which im not sure makes total sense, but that's where it ended up 💭 i think its cute tho!

printing my own pages has also led to me experimenting with illustrating in the margins beforehand- this was an article from rolling stone magazine about cd's, so it was nice to add some drawings and break all the text up a little. the article is 7 pages 🫣 nice to be able to print something so long, though.

and then some more regular commonplace/brain drain bits:

that's all i've got so far! i expected writing with the rings to be an annoyance, or opening and closing the rings to get irritating, but so far i don't mind either. i do normally remove the pages to write, but i kind of like that as i often found my hand falling off the page a bit in the hobonichi cousin, when i neared the bottom of the page (if that makes sense?) because the book was so thick. so far this is all comfortable!

im not sure. i like it a lot. it feels very freeing autistically speaking, and although i learnt a lot from my month in the hobonichi cousin, i cant help but feel my dad was right when he said this seemed like the next logical evolution 🫣 it's very fun to be able to create my own pages, to print them, the tactility of cutting, folding, gluing, punching them. being able to move them all around! archive them when things start to feel a bit full, etc.

i'll keep you updated! if any of you are interested in these pages as printables, please let me know what kind of size and formats you'd be looking for. quite a few people seemed interested after the last video, so i'll work on it! but it would be useful to know what you'd all like, as i've created these pages a bit hyper-specifically for myself lol.

hope this nice long post was a welcome appearance after some quieter weeks 🙇🏻‍♀️ hopefully i'll keep having fun and be able to share more with you soon!

take care and speak soon, friends x

oh! edit to say that i forgot to add my silly little pocket photos:

they're just bulk-printed bits to add to my commonplace when i'm ready for them, but i think they look a little satisfying in there! ✂️

I just love all of this & by the look of it, & by reading your thoughts here, it feels like you’re able to be more creative & customise everything as you need. I’m looking forward to seeing how this unfolds more for you & thank you for sharing! ✨🙏🏼

Kim

oh boy Megan you are a dangerous influence... but also, could you link the RS article you printed? It looks interesting!

Ollie 🐞

These look amazing, and I love how this “experiment” is working out for you!

Courtney

i’ve also switched systems / notebooks a few times this year, because i feel them not working anymore. but with the ring binder, and the fact that you create pages, you can just change to whatever you want whenever you want, without using a book with a set amount of pages. i think this is really cool c:

blake

thank you for sharing this, i’ve watched the last attic archives video every night this week because it helps me think and sleep. your ideas make life more fun when for me when i’ve been feeling monotone. 🤎

blake

I’m the same. I adore being able to use my fountain pens daily on such satisfying paper. I see some google research into printable paper in my future…I could tape it into the Stalogy A5 I’m using as an ephemera journal. Currently using the A6 hobo for my health journal and a mega weeks for planning/recording most other things. Which is working well for me. (Was having to exert a large amount of impulse control to avoid buying a cousin 🤭)

Parker

As an update i did stay up to journal until far too late :) honestly a pretty good start to my birthday though - i’ve worked out some cool layouts and I’m trying to figure out Dutch doors (intriguing, so much potential, feels like I’ve discovered a whole new world)🙃

Sara

This is lovely, Megan! Your design choices are fantastic and I’m glad you’re enjoying it.

Jesse

This has been my experience as well! Too much for me to keep up with but the customizability is chef’s kiss.

Jesse

I love this evolution! I used binders a lot during my life and they are quite freeing indeed. I used leuchtruum a lot these past years, but I was feeling the same as you. Now I'm moving towards the Traveler's Notebook system, so if you setup a print in their sizes it would be awesome! 🌟💜

NattyNat

Can't explain it but this set up calms my mind to look at hahah. So nice

alex thomas

It looks brilliant! For printables, I’d absolutely spend money on the commonplace inserts. They’re perfect. How do you find the clipbook? Would you rather upgrade to a different filofax binder?

Nikki Naomi

I really love japanese paper in the notebooks and planners. I think you said you got special paper in the video, or samples from a company, but do you think that you will miss this paper quality of the hobinichi? Or is this paper, for you, comparable?

Bailey

Very aesthetically pleasing! Glad you’re having so much fun with this new planning system.💕

Alma Moreno

I would love some printables to keep track of movies / tv shows/ podcasts / books 👀

Daniela

this is so satisfying!! glad it's working out so well for you!

emery

This reminds me a lot of why I, valiantly, tried digital planning for a while and did hardcore Bullet Journaling for so long was the option to make it custom to fit my needs Now, interestingly, it has become way too much for me to consistently take on, personally, but the appeal of having it fit you exactly as you want and need it in that time is always very appealing

ash dietz

Love this! I’d definitely be interested in printables for my A5 Plotter.

the_stationery_writer

I love it!! You kept reiterating that you were moving into this system in your video last week, the number of times you said it made me think that you definitely would move into it 😂 I’m so glad it’s working for you though! I’m still way behind in an a5 leuchtturm, but it seems like this could be great for you! :)

Ashleigh

Megan this looks amazing! I'm using a hobonichi cousin but this method looks great, without having the "pressure" of using everything on the notebook as it comes. I really admire the way of exploring planning and how you help us! So yes, I would totally buy them as printables hahaha I love the little inserts in general and the ones about books/movies/music and the habit tracker one ❤️ Also your little doodles are amazing but I understand those are more personal 💕

Eva

Ooo good to know! As always, thank you for sharing with us🤍

Tori Davis

i have seen people unbind the pages and hole punch them to essentially just make a ring-bound cousin but it seems very precarious lol 🫣 one slip and it's all messed up. im actually now printing on some kokuyo paper that someone recommended me and it's super soft and beautiful to write on! not too dissimilar to tomoe river, just a little thicker/smoother

Megan Rhiannon ✸

both a4 and a5 i think! ohh and yes, it was hellebore!!

Laura

It would be really cool i think to rip out the cousin pages and print directly on those because the paper so nice but idk that seems like a ton of work

Tori Davis

oh, also! hellebore zine probably 🙇🏻‍♀️

Megan Rhiannon ✸

thats a big part of my motivation, too! i used to collect so much ephemera (for lack of a better term) when visiting places, but eventually stopped because sticking it in was getting too difficult with notebooks bulking up etc. with this system, i can punch and add anything, then just archive when things get full 💭 it's compelling! what size pages would you be interested in?

Megan Rhiannon ✸

thank you! its a shame because i really did love the hobonichi cousin and it taught me a lot about the size i actually get on best with but then. 🫣 moving the pages

Megan Rhiannon ✸

these looks so good, and would be very interested in printables!! your exploration comes at a very convenient time for me, as i've been thinking how i can incorporate papers (from museum leaflets to articles) within a planner system!! and a completely unrelated question: months ago, you showed some spooky horror magazines in one of your videos, and i still think about them, but cannot remember the name of it :o if you know what magazines i'm referring to it would be super if you could let me know!

Laura

i'll keep that in mind, thank you 🙇🏻‍♀️ im hoping to make a couple of smaller printables (like the library card) that could be used/added to any system!

Megan Rhiannon ✸

This is so cool and unique!! You inspired me to purchase a cousin this year which i LOVE but i definitely think you are on to something here 🧐🧐❤️‍🩹

Tori Davis

It looks really nice, don't think its structured enough for me, but I'm glad you like it! I really like the library card page and would be interested in using it, I have a A6 and a week hobonichi so it'd be good to have it for these sizes!

Ellie

thank you! 🙇🏻‍♀️

Megan Rhiannon ✸

👀 i would never want to be a bad influence but also. have fun

Megan Rhiannon ✸

thank you! it feels v satisfying to finally link those two aspects of my creative practice together 🥲

Megan Rhiannon ✸

These all look so cool! Makes me want to try new spreads in my own planners… might just test some out this week👀

Sara

oh im so glad, thank you! binding them would be nice when they're all finished 💭

Megan Rhiannon ✸

i'm hoping to maybe upload the a5 pages this weekend! because i've already drawn the pages up for myself, im hoping it'll be a little less work to prep. thanks for your interest! ❤️‍🩹

Megan Rhiannon ✸

These are fantastic!! I can’t wait to see how you continue to use them!!

Chloe Yeoman

thank you! im very grateful for such kind words 🙇🏻‍♀️❤️‍🩹

Megan Rhiannon ✸

The margin illustrations are just so lovely. It’s nice to see your writing and illustrations coming together in one place!

Georgia

This is the best! I'm so inspired. I've done alot of this kind of thing for designing my own trackers, schedules, calendars etc, because I could never find anything that ticked all my boxes, but this is next level. Perhaps when the planner is full or when you're ready for a clean slate, you could bind the pages into booklets for archiving.

AutomaticOtter

It’s so interesting to see your evolution into these pages - I’m so glad they are working for you! I would definitely love to be able to buy a5 pages from you. Blank versions of all the pages you’ve made would be awesome! And maybe some with your awesome illustrations too! Eek! Would be so fun! Ive been hoarding a gorgeous a5 binder I could use too 😍

Alice Dunstall

these planner pieces are beautiful! im so glad you're finding something that works well for you, its been nice to hear the autistic excitement in your voice when talking about it :) seeing your art evolve has been so much fun 🤍
