tuesday 🦇

hi everyone, i hope you’re all doing okay. just wanted to give you a little preview of my current “experiment.” all my doctors appointments recently have me thinking about portability again, so i’ve been testing inserts for the ‘personal’ size filofax.

the inserts are a little bigger then the official filofax pages, and there’s a little overhang as a result. it doesn’t bother me too much, and the extra .5cm is valuable space on the page, in my opinion 😅 i don’t really like how narrow the official pages are. these inserts would probably fit perfectly in smaller filofax’s, but this one has 30mm rings which i think is the primary cause of the overhang.

anyway, getting on ok with it, filling some pages gradually. testing some ideas for tracking music/albums. having a weird/hard time generally, but these little filofax experiments really are a joy. hope you find them interesting 🙇🏻‍♀️

i also added the lil sad/spooky summer stickers to the shop this morning, as you might have seen on instagram. i’d been waiting to maybe try and pull a second sheet together, but my brain feels like it’s full of tv static at the moment. the original sheet is available for you now nonetheless!

i hope you enjoy them 🍇☠️

that’s all for today. take care and speak soon, friends x

as far as your worries mentioned in the video about "real" dividers maybe not working -- vertical dividers should work just fine i'd think if your pages are simply a bit wider rather than a bit taller

Do I see a music log 😳

Hello everyone! Lisseth here, coming to you from Washington D.C. I am a recent subscriber. Megan, thank you for your beautiful designs! They really inspire me to use my planners more. I have a question (and I'm extending it to the rest of the community). I feel technologically inept some times. I'm wondering how to go about using the digital planner stickers on a planner that I use on Goodnotes? Appreciate any insight!

Wow!! This looks stunning, Megan! 😍 I love all about it & also the colours of your illustrations when they’re printed. I’m not familiar with Filofax at all, so I went just now to the website to try to understand it a bit more regarding sizes etc. Oh my, I’m confused! 🙈 There seems to be so many options! 😅 But have I understood it correctly that the personal size is between A5 & A6? May I ask again what type of paper you use to print your pages? Thank you for sharing, I’m really enjoying following along on your exploration & seeing your work 🩶🙏🏼✨

Kim

the sizing for the holes is a little different between a5 and personal, but my hole punch is adjustable so im using the same one. i print two per page, fold, glue, trim the excess paper and punch!

Megan Rhiannon ✸

Just wondering whether you use the same hole punch as your a5?! And also whether you print 2 or 4 per page?! Tia! 🙇🏻‍♀️🧡

Lani Merrell

Same! I have a "bible sized" plotter which equates to this same filofax sizing!

This looks great, Megan! I especially love the new trackers🫀 I gasped when I saw the pictures because I treated myself to this exact cover over the weekend and it should arrive today. I’ve been using your inserts in the A5 version of it but wanted something smaller to journal in. That being said, having the designated space to title my journal entries has been an unexpected joy😄

Anna

Hi! I was wondering if you could possibly make single column versions of the a5 tv/film log pages, like your task masterlist and additional notes pages? <3

Grace King

omg I love those music/book tracker layouts. I'm excited to see how this works out. Before you started working on these I was thinking of downsizing from the A5 and working my brain trying to make the current printables smaller 😭 this would be wonderful!

Livi

Yep they're personal size, the only difference is they have 11mm rings. I sometimes need to do some trimming on the hole side but that's normal for anything not made by Plotter. Otherwise the plotter tends to have plenty of space.

Sarah Bailey

Should work fine for me. My binder doesn't have a clasp. I'm also using some Project Manager inserts from Plotter which tend to overhang a bit.

matthew h

I’m really interested to see how this will help you. Hope you get some resting time today, sending love to you and Wednesday 💜

Yesssss!!!! I’m very excited! I’ve been restraining myself from buying an a5 when I already have the smaller Filofax! 🥰🧡

Lani Merrell

they’re a little bigger than the official size, but hopefully they might work for you!

Megan Rhiannon ✸

moterm is really expensive from the uk, but i did consider it! the overhang in the norfolk isn’t terrible, probably 1cm at absolute most but i’ll have to see if it gets worse as it fills up. i don’t hate it though! i like the full little chaotic book vibe 😌

Megan Rhiannon ✸

hopefully there won’t be too much overhang! is the size similar to filofax personal?

Megan Rhiannon ✸

Looking forward to these. This is my preferred size.

matthew h

The Norfolk should with a little use. Malden’s rarely lie completely flat bc of the pocket configuration. There’s a YouTuber called Flatability that rates this, although he mostly collects older Filofaxes (pre 2010). The black Malden comes up on eBay regularly.

waggermama

is that the malden? my norfolk doesn’t lie very flat which isn’t the end of the world, but something to think about long term i guess! maybe i’ll keep my eyes peeled for a secondhand malden to try

Megan Rhiannon ✸

Yesssss!!! I've been waiting for this one. I actually got my first personal rings binder from Moterm after you started using rings out of curiosity but just used my own hand-drawn inserts. The A5 was a little too big for portability which was important to me. So it's nice that i'll be able to use your layouts now. As for the 30mm rings, i think thats why i decided to go for the moterm instead of the filofax since moterm has easy change rings, but now im eyeing that norfolk..

ghostlogs

I'm SO ready to test these in my plotter! (tiny rings)

Sarah Bailey

The leather IS lovely and it lies flat, which is a big plus, mines storing all my inserts from last year and it fits easily

waggermama

not 5cm (that would be a lot!) but 0.5cm- it still makes a big difference imo, just to help combat some of the narrowness. i think the overhang looks ok too! adds to the mad-scientist notebook vibe lol it’s been really fun to make inserts, i hope i can continue to pursue it 🙇🏻‍♀️

Megan Rhiannon ✸

i’ve heard that about the maldens! i considered it but i prefer the style of the norfolk- the pockets and the pebbled cover, its really soft. the rings are a little problematic but im hoping it will be nice to fill them over time! i didn’t want to risk a cover with smaller rings and fill them up too fast again 🥲

Megan Rhiannon ✸

i’m glad you’ve been enjoying seeing it all! the rings are huge lol 🥲 but im hoping it’ll be so nice to be able to fill them up over time

Megan Rhiannon ✸

5cm is absolutely valuable. I don’t notice the overhang tbh, I think it looks really nice. I am enjoying very much to see some of your creative process. Who knows, maybe someday you will have a successful hobonichi-like company. I can see the potential, and for neurospicy people like us, this is gold.

Monica Aguilar

Oh is that the Norfolk? I have one and I do find the bigger rings more of a hindrance than a positive. I think the *Malden is the same width but the smaller rings mean it fits Personal wide or similar. *older secondhand Maldens are better than new ones - I collect Maldens as one of my special interests :)

waggermama

I was confused about the overhang while watching the video since there was such a nice border on either side, and then I see the closed photo - definitely think it's because of the rings. Thank you for sharing~ <3 It's been a lot of fun seeing all the different styles and types of journals*
