Has he ever played a season where he didn't expect some kind of special "carve out" in terms of playing style, minutes, or a voice over the coach? Even in the first go round in Cleveland and his time in Miami LeBron liked to ride and criticize teammates (whipping boys) in a way that was only the per view of the head coach. If the Lakers win at a high clip out of the gate Luke is safe but if there are problems it will devolve quickly.
