Warriors vs Cavs |GM- 79|

Probably should have done Portland Denver, still figuring out how to choose the right game while watching multiple (note taking). Moving forward I am going to at some point I will open up a new tier covering other games.

I think uploading to Vimeo is better. Somehow, youtube never let me wartch on LTE, only on Wifi. Now i can watch on the road. Thanks

You had me at "Klay with the I don't give a fuck shot!"

I never said could, KD's style has not changed - only his field goal attempts.

Paradox

Glad you covered this one if you had to choose only one. I'll wait until the playoffs to see who we play and I hope it's not OKC first. Looking forward to seeing you break down the teams we will match up with.

Russ

I'm with you on your take AG. KD seems to be trying to showcase himself not really thinking about the team first, and I do buy the dynamic hypothesis you present.

Russ

Thank you!

Athletic Alchemy

Thanks ! Really looking forward to all these potential match ups east and west.

great video

Alch - you been great all year. Can't wait to see your playoffs videos. Thank you for your efforts.

The difference is the offense is running through him more as a passer/facilitator. He brings it up court, surveys the floor, and doesn't look for a shot nearly as much. The offense and KD have been a lot different in the last month. It hasn't looked like this in the KD era. You're right he *could have* played like this, but that's my point: now he is playing like this. Before he wasn't.

Major Powers

If Bell was in Phoenix I'm sure he could average a cool 12.9p/8r/4a on 10 shots a game. Also did the did you hear the roadtrippin' podcast episode with Kerith Berk, Quinn and JB? It's a cool listen. https://www.uninterrupted.com/podcasts/1FeGpBvF7WcI6Ac2uyg2qo/road-trippin

The thing is I don't see a difference between the KD now and the KD the last two seasons. He always got to pass a ton. The only difference is he is taking a lot less shot attempts the last month and that leaves even more room to pass. But he always had the freedom to bring the ball up court and call plays.

Paradox

Draymond isn't a player who can be evaluated in the regular season. Bc the regular season is Draymond's preseason. He doesn't care about these games. He's literally getting into bball shape right now. He's on a totally different timetable than the rest of the league. Like he said, there are 82 game players and 16 game players. All he cares about are rings. Draymond knows that legacies aren't made from stats and highlight mix tapes lol. His legacy will be winning, plain and simple. As far as Cook, Kerr is gonna play him. I don't think it's a coincidence Cook has been hot lately and much more aggressive. I think Kerr is empowering him. I think Kerr sees a lot of himself in Cook and vice versa. Kerr was not a good PG. He was a hired gun his entire career. He made an entire career out of making open shots set up by all time greats like Jordan and Duncan. That's the only reason he had such a long career. And that's the only way Cook is gonna have a long career. And I think he understands that. If Cook wants an NBA career, he's gonna have to emulate Kerr and play that sniper/scorer role Kerr did.

I'm really rooting for Jordan Bell. Seems like a good guy and I feel like he's pretty close to being good.

Regarding KD: here's the thing, we're calling him passive, or in transition-out-of-GSW-mode or whatever, but since he started running point and playing more motions and been looking to facilitate more, we've actually looked way better. It's like he fits in the offense better suddenly. I like Alc's theory. The team, in a ploy to show him how down they are for him, said: "start running some point if you want," and KD was like, "ok fuck yeah, I've always wanted do that" and, no surprise, they've been balling ever since. Don't forget that KD is a straight up obsessed disciple of the game who wants to always be improving on all possible facets. He enjoys all parts of basketball, all positions, all strategies, all kinds of players. He truly wants to be the most well rounded player of all time, and he has the opportunity to do that in GSW. I think what we've been seeing, even though I still think he's leaving, is leaving a glimmer of hope that he'll stay.

Nick young forgot he got a son after receiving the ring 🤣🤣

I think it’s an interesting dynamic with guys who have been raised by single mothers and who have been homeless for a portion of their lives. Guys like KD, Lebron and Jimmy Butler were all raised by single mothers, two of them being homeless, and wandering around from place to place. It’s weird how that translates to free agency and changing teams. These are all guys who have been on multiple teams, who have changed teams for their own benefit. In contrast, we see guys like Steph and Klay, with fathers who played in the NBA, and who have stuck with their teams for the entirety of their careers. There’s something to be said about loyalty and security with oneself. Steph is the ultimate symbol of a guy who is secure with himself and his family, while KD is an example of someone who isn’t secure with himself, who is still searching for a sense of security. What I’m getting at here is that KD DOES have an agenda. The things he does are deliberate. And they’re for his benefit. I’m not sure he’s fully invested in the team concept like Steph and klay are.

Interesting theory...it’s possible, I mean obviously this type of behavior from him is indicative of SOMETHING. Whatever that SOMETHING is, is up for debate. If he plays passive in the playoffs like he is now, we might have an issue. That being said, when Steph and klay cant get a bucket, KD is the ultimate luxury. What I like about your theory is that it’s entirely possible, and that he doesn’t want to leave on a bad note, and as a result, he’s showing the team that they can still win when he’s not being super aggressive offensively. Is it also possible that maybe he’s trying to prove they can’t win without him, and is going to do the same thing in the playoffs?

Did people watch Jalen roast Pierce? https://streamable.com/i6u3w

Paradox

On Durant: I think he's biding his time and pacing himself. I'm not sure he has 'an agenda' so close to the postseason-but I do see that either he's saving himself with some of his offensive hesitance-or he is trying to take some time off being 'the man'. Overall I see the whole team coming together at the right time in ways I haven't seen since 2017. I just hope that the injury bug doesn't bite the team as it has before. Health really is important-the most important thing. DeMarcus really has it going and it will be interesting if he can hold it together mentally on his first playoff run. Curry seems pretty ready-I just don't understand why he can't play at Staples against the Lakers-he plays better against the Clippers yet it's the same buliding.

Hey Alchemy would have been great to see breakdown of Portland Denver game

DaniellieeE

I feel both Shaun and Iguadala are being rested as much as possible before playoffs

DaniellieeE

Will shaun livingston be healthy come playoff time? He left with a left knee contusion and supposedly he's been dealing with knee soreness/pain the whole season which is why he missed so many games. Their wing depth is bad so theyre gonna need him

Durant made a comment about playing in the playoffs the way he has lately, and that had me wondering if he might be intending to kind of play a supporting role as he prepares to exit the scene, sort of transitioning the team to life-without-KD, to make it more of a low-key departure that doesn't engender the hard feelings as in his OKC departure, and even the team's Seattle split. Of course that doesn't mean his hero-ball tendencies won't override that at key moments late in close games, and maybe entirely in the finals where I have to believe he'll likely be hunting for another MVP. How he plays in the playoffs might end up being a real indicator of what he's actually deciding to do, but interpreting that is going to be guesswork anyway.

I was at the game and when KD started playing hero ball late in the 4th quarter, shooting every single time down for like 5 possessions in a row, our whole section was like, ‘WTF you doin, KD?!” I completely agree with you he’s playing a game within the game for himself, dunno why.

I find it interesting how we essentially have a mini PG competition, well that’s how KD is making it feel like. He had a game high 8 assists last night. Right now KD wants to be a point guard so bad which at times like you said hurts the team. Right now it looks like KD (PG) and Steph (SG)...honestly. Also a little thing to note, with 3 more games our 2 main vets are pretty chipped up. Livingston with the knee contusion and Iguodola with the tie soreness..

Another brilliant commentary, spiced with just the right amount of bravado and wit. Gave me some good laughs, and made me, once again, so glad to be a patreon. Bro Alch continues to shine. He combines genius with generosity. Accordingly, his videos are consistently conscientious, impeccable, entertaining, enlightening.

Free throw disparity was lowkey atrocious this game. Excluding technicals and intentional free throws, we probably had 4 fta compared to their 20 something. Not to mention the 2:1 personal fouls. I like Draymond's aggression for the most part, he needs to take more drives to collapse the defense. I don't think he should launch 3s outside the corners, certainly not at the very top of the srch. The backpack arc just isn't reliable for that distance. You're right about KD's habits. He tends to be passive the first three quarters then plays too much hero ball in a close 4th quarter. Or against the Celtics he makes it a mission to outplay Kyrie 1 vs 1. I'm hoping we don't face them in the finals.

Paradox

On the Cook thing, I can't see Kerr putting him in the rotation - his value is as another shooter on the floor in very specific situations, or possibly some amount of time with the second unit when they can use a 3rd scorer and the matchups mean he's not such a defensive liability. The core group is the starters plus Iggy, Dot, and Loon or Bogut depending on matchups, and Kerr likely won't go beyond that with any regularity. And I see Boogie getting more second unit time and less with the starters, as Kerr goes Hamptons more often - and it wouldn't shock me to see Bogut even start some games, or at least get some real minutes with the three scorers, because his screening and passing fits so well while they need Boogie's scoring when any of them are sitting. So I really do see Kerr basically using an 8- or 9-man rotation this year, and his most likely 10th man would be JJ, because Kerr likes the vets when it counts. So Cook, Bell and McKinnie should plan on doing a lot of sitting and cheering - which plays to Cook's strength... ;-)

Yeah it’s grind for everyone all around. They really should shorten the season. Just cut out B2B

Athletic Alchemy

I saw that! Boogies rep is just crazy! Plus I feel like there is this coddling of OKC since KD left.

Athletic Alchemy

Haha that’s what up!

Athletic Alchemy

Thanks for doing this review. I can't wait to hear your take on the upcoming Portland game.

Strong Foru

And how could I forget swaggy and that gay ass man purse

I was fortunate enough to go court and one the most enjoyable things ( other than the cavs making a comeback) is seeing what the tv doesn’t show like steph missing pregrame intros or during some timeouts kd isolated himself under the basket while the team was in the huddle...ps I’m on the same side as warriors bench under the basket with the hat on 🔥🔥🔥🔥 vid to alch

Alc - riddle me this - how do the refs call Boogie for an In Fragrante 2 for incidental contact on a rebound and a Flag1 on Westbrook for a self-described payback and deliberate elbow/forearm to the jaw of ZaZa?

Dan Doerge

Hit up that OKC/Rockets game Be cool to see them first round then Houston in the WCF

Stevie Ray

These players say it's a 82 game grind. But I find these 82 games a grind myself lol esp these last few games it must be hella boring for these guys when you know a game against the lowly cavs mean absolutely nothing!
