2020-03-25 07:25:32 +0000 UTCAfter this game was recently rebroadcast, one of the Warriors fans in Warriors Reddit posted one of those dumb "Who would you rather" posts, asking who would be better on the 2017-2018 Championship team: Shaq or Dirk. And all the idiot fans that we have said Shaq. And, yes, for some dumb reason it still irks me to think that there are Warriors fans who have absolutely no idea how the team's offense and defense operates, and just how bad Shaq would be in it. It would have been worse than plugging in Cousins, minus his 3 point shooting and free throw shooting. The Warriors use their centers for very specific supporting roles. There is no low post offense. There are no post ups. There are very few P&Rs (and that's not something Shaq would be good at anyhow. Centers set screens. They facilitate the offense. They take advantage of over-eager perimeter defenders and cut for easy dunks. Their main role is defense. They have to be able to rotate quickly to the perimeter as the defense shifts. Dirk may not have been very fluid, but he had range, could switch, would set screens and pass, and could space the floor.

Its not like it was Kobe getting the whistles or even a young Bron. But Wade form day one acted as if he was the guy and was suppose to be there.
